    On your manual system do you still get to set the exact temperature on the temp dial? Does it still have the 18C, 22C, 26C temp marks?

    Ooooh, It possibly could be done but fro my trawling through the manuals, I belive it is a completely different loom. You will also need the relevent sensors etc in the footwells and dash to measure the temperature...

    In short, it will be a much bigger job than just unplug the basic, plug in the climatronic....

    Gavs - the only sensors - two off - are fitted into the climatron unit.

    I've often thought that both are just plug and play type items. VW wouldnt go to the expense (if possible) of having to create two different wiring looms. The rotary dials on the standard unit are the equivelent of the buttons on the climatronic unit - for direction of air flow and speed of fan. The temperature control would be the only difference and I think the climatronic unit would simply plug in. Maybe swap my old 'blue' unit when my new white on black one arrives

    Added - or maybe not as easy - looks like ebay is full of wiring looms for climatronics - albeit for non Polos. Plus this crazy piece of kit;

    The manuals mentioned a sensor being mounted in the front passenger foot well as well as one mounted in the top of the dash, right between the 2 demister vents though.......

    And what about the Auto option? Must be a computer setting or computer that controls that?

    Thanks for the replies guys. So it seems to be a major job to retro fit the unit. The joys of not be given the option to have it fitted through VWSA is fustrating. Already scrapped the idea of retro fitting xenons due to the costs +-R20k

    I don't see why you would bother retrofitting climatronic, it's not a huge leap ahead of having manual controls in my opinion.

    I hardly use the auto mode.

    I could have sworn the GTI comes with Climatic. You set the temp but need to adjust the rest (fan speed, vent outlets)
