Reliability? Buying New Soon! (Help a noob)

    Hey guys,

Can't help but seeing lots of threads with problems regarding the Polos! Also read through the 'what would be your next car after the Polo GTI thread,' made my heart sink a bit. Took a Polo 77tsi, MY13/13.5 (pretty sure) for a test drive not too long ago, as I'm about to buy a new car as I'm coming on to my P's in early March, and fell in love with it. Been learning in a 2012 Mini, driven my brother's Swift and have taken many other small hatches for test drives, nothing made me smile quite like the Polo did. So, had my heart set on it and have saved what I need. Is this going to be a reliable, brand new car? As I said, everyone seems to be suffering from a multitude of problems. Are the MY13/13.5 models more refined, less errors and malfunctions?

Have also heard rumours of a brand new Polo in early 2014, is it worth waiting a bit longer for the new car?

Thanks for your time guys, helping out a noob,

    Jacob

It's not really a multitude of problems for every single owner. For every one thing you read from someone here, there are so many more that are fine. Every forum you go on will have the same for any car you want to get, cars just have little problems and it's a little easier to talk and compare now.

They are a great car, if you want it, get it, you'll love it.

I have a my13.5 polo gti and love it
I also drive a 325ci. Both very different cars, the polo is just a nimble little sports car and the 325 is a cruiser...
    Love em both!!

Just make sure you get a manual and steer clear of the DSG. I think the little 1.2 is a fairly reliable engine when coupled to the 6 speed manual.
DSG's just seem to be a headache for too many people.

If only VW would bring out the Polo GT - new 1.4 ACT (103kw) engine with a 6 speed manual.

Always manual man, always. Learned manual and love it, plus it's cheaper which helps too

Faith restored, no worries and thank you!
So the remaining question is, MY13.5, or wait for the announcement of the new Polo? So many decisions aha!

Wait for the announcement (or arrival), then buy your MY13.5 at a discount!

(As if... Somehow, it doesn't work like that, here in Australia... Not enough competition, I suspect)

77TSI and a manual transmission shouldn't give you any issues at all! The 77TSI is a brilliant little engine and one of the more reliable Volkswagen Group engines. As for a suspected new model, I've heard that it isn't likely until late next year or early 2015. Even then, who knows when it will arrive in Australia. Go for it!

you'll get a cheaper deal on 2013 plated cars once the 2014 builds start to come through in Feb-March (or earlier if there is lots of stock left over). But you'll lose on resale. Depends what is important to you.

If the GT was in Australia I'd have bought it in a heartbeat, as would all the other wannabe gti owners who wont drive DSG. Hopefully in the next 22 months before my lease runs out.
