I had my polo valued at trading in price of $18k I simply laughed when they said I'd get that towards a 2011 Gti golf mk6 with 18k Km's on it for $44k. This was at a VW used car yard. I said I wouldn't take anything less the 24k. They came close to agreeing but I wasn't prepared to spend so much more for a used golf almost 20k in price difference.

Private all the way I say.

I received my recall letter in mail, joy of joys.

Anyone have any insight as to what they are replacing, is it the metritronics (or however you say it) unit being replaced? It suggested they are waiting for parts before the next step of the recall and I will be notified by letter when the parts are in.

It is the Mechatronics (combination of mechanical and electronics) unit that they will be replacing.

Yep, it is going to take quite a while as the parts have to be assembled and then sent around to the dealers. The dealers have to make sure their mechanics are up to speed with what to do. They have to make sure they have sufficient loan cars, and they also have to allocate enough working space for the recall. Remember, this on top of their normal servicing work load. After all this, they have to coordinate things with their customers. Dealers are never really looking for work. They are generally booked solid every day, so it is going to be interesting how they handle things.

My Caddy had its 30,000 km service yesterday, and the dealer went through things. They are not holding their breath.

Be prepared for a little wait.

Don't say that... we will have letters to the SMH Drive editors complaining about waiting for the parts to arrive. How they can't drive their cars because they "live in terror at what might happen" every time they get in the car .....

Damn right you are I've been thinking about it for a while but really been waiting for a good Golf gti to pop up. Should have bought the Golf when I was looking last year.

Your GTi has the DSG involved in the recall so you will get the notice sooner or later

That depends on the build date according to VW

Only specific DSG build code "M.." I believe is covered which containes a specific run / part number of mechatronics units that are defective. Lemonskin could be lucky and have the newer model which from memory has the letter 'A' designation at the start of it.
