I called up a VW servicing department and was going to ask this question but before I got to it, I was advised that the reversing light is not designed to 'Light anything up. It's just there as a warning to other drivers that you intend to reverse". I then asked him how are we supposed to see what we are backing into when in a dark street.

His comment was to look out the rear window. I retorted "I can't see what's out the back window in a dark street because the reverse light is so piss weak that it doesn't light up anything!"

Haha you go him there. Since i live in a busy street i always have to reverse in the driveway and it does make it difficult with the one light being dim. Luckily, it's no so much of a hassle once i get in a bit further in due to the motion sensor outdoor lighting on the front porch.
