    Rattle from rear left ??

Ok so a couple of days ago I did a big clean on my Polo and since after I have noticed a rattling/thumbing noise from the rear left wheel. I've taken everything out of the back so now it's just the wheel and Jack, I've also had a look at my rear sway bar but that seems stiff as so now I'm left thinking what the hell is it?

My concerns are that if I take it back to VW they will try and blame it on my sway bar? So before I action on this gamble has anyone else heard this noise before? It's hard to explain but it does sound like there is 1kg weight rolling around in my boot!

    Thanks

Fold your rear seats down and drive around. I found in the end that the latches make a loud ralling sound. After i found out what the problem was i put cloth tape over the metal latch and haven't had a rattle since.

its probably going to be simple, i thought i had a terrible rear suspension problem once but it turned out to be the rear seat not clicked in properly after i folded it down.
If you can get a buddy to come for a drive and let him sit in the back and sus it out

    Rattle from rear left ??

If its a ticking noise rather than a rattle, grease up your spring seats....

Definitely check the seats - if it's not latched good and tight they rattle

I have a rattle in my rear left too, kinda. I've worked out its somewhere in the door and it makes a 'click' noise on some songs with bass and over sharp bumps and reflectors in the road. Has anyone had this before? Seems temperamental too, sometimes it happens other times it doesn't.

I have had a small tinkling noise like a zipper pull rattling on a bag since car was new.
I took shockie off and it seemed to go away.
Then it came back so I ended up taking L/H rear upholstery off mudguard roll Put somefoam tape under some wiring and that seems to have fixed that.
However now have an occasional strange sound like the jack handle ratlling but it is wrapped in foam as well.
Took i to dealer who couldnt find it but could hear original one but when the removed shockie it still did it.
    Dont you hate that.
Will investigate further when I get use of my left hand again (operation )

Seems like they build a rattle in doesnt it. LOL

I too have been chasing rattles (clicking more like) along with gavs in the polos rear. The best test I have since found is like suggested above, remove the shock and see if it is still there.

The other thing as suggested is lower / remove the seat backs because if you think its coming from the left, lower/remove the seats and its suddenly coming from the right.

I think my clicking is the shock assembly, not the actual shock, but somehow the mount that is welded to the car. I managed to get rid of it some how but since jacking up the car again to do something else, it came back... fun fun fun.

    Hey

I'll check my seats but some was in them all day so I can only assume that would have stopped the rattling. Sometime it doesn't even need to be over a bump

A longshot... I once had what sounded like a knocking in the rear of my (former) Ford Focus. I thought it was exhaust related, given I'd had some work done a few weeks previously, but it turned out to be a loose brake caliper. Which was a little freaky as they hadn't been off in months.
Now gone.... 2012 Skoda Fabia RS
