Question for Polo owners - Bluetooth

Not sure about this one just yet - and neither is my dealer!

With my current car - MY07 Aurion, it has Bluetooth.. but only for making calls. My Mrs now has a Hyundai IX35, and with my iphone i can play songs directly to the car stereo.

Does anyone here have a Polo with the RCD510 deck, and bluetooth - who can tell me what the bluetooth can and cant do??

    Cheers!

It depends, that is the short answer.

If you get the factory-fitted kit, I believe (I could be wrong though) that there is only the newer, premium bluetooth option being fitted, which gives you answering calls, dialling, phone book, text messages (in some instances) and bluetooth streaming through teh RCD 510. If you get the RNS 510 and put that in, there is also the option for text-to-speach.

The older, standard bluetooth could answer and dial, along with streaming but I'm not sure about the phone book etc.

The dealer fitted option(s) have some integration, but you really don't want the little touch-scrren system that gets stuck to your dash, it's hideous and not really any cheaper than the others.

    Thanks guys.

My order form doesnt have Bluetooth at all on there and my dealer/salesperson told me its fitted at the dealership.

I've asked for a quote on the Premium Bluetooth kit. I think i am also going for the Xpack (tinting/paint protection) and 3yr additional warranty to take it to 6yrs total. Trying to squeeze both in for around $2.5k.. maybe $3k incl bluetooth?

Looks like Audio streaming is MONO only with that kit - which is what I had been told when I was looking into it, too. Does A2DP support stereo at all? Does anyone know if the VW OEM Premium kit does stereo?

I had an old non OEM BT unit and it was mono audio streaming. I bought a 9w7 OEM kit and fitted it myself. It is A2DP which means it does Bluetooth audio streaming in stereo.

The dealer will charge 600-700 for the premium kit easily....maybe more...buy it from eBay Europe and save 50% fitting it yourself...

Thanks for the info. That's good news that the 9w7 does stereo streaming.

I almost bought one from Spain, but the sellers were adamant that I wouldn't be able to use the steering wheel controls... the one's in Poland couldn't tell me what firmware their unit had...

Rob, your car was built after mine so you should be able to easily. The 9W7 unit is basically a superceed unit for the older 9W2 and 9W3 units, the 9W7 gets the text-to-speach features for the RNS-510. It's primarily a coding issue through VCDS more than anything else....

Guys, off topic a bit, but the dealer is offering $3800 for Tint + Xpack + Extra 3 years warranty. Given I will likely have to pay an extra $700 or so for the Bluetooth module....

    Room to bargain?

$3800 for all those extras sounds expensive to me.. an extra 3 year warranty (apparently, there are 2 different types of extended warranty) is about $1400-1500 (shop around) and tinting is only about $300-400 at most.
