    Pumping sound after Ignition off

I recently had my car back from VW as they fixed the shuttering it was doing in low gears. Now that that has all be fixed (thank God) I realised that every time I turn the car off I hear this pumping sound coming from the engine bay. It's on for a while be depending on how hard or long I was driving the car.

Does anyone know what this is?

As you just got your car back you are probably more wary of the sounds it makes LOL

It's normal. I believe it is the sound of the oil/coolant pump designed to cool the turbo after shutoff- but not 100% sure. I can tell you it is normal though, and mine has been doing it from new.

Yep, normal cool-down mode, more evident on warmer days when you've been driving moderately or hard.

Correct. I also don't think it's even a little bit mentioned in the manual.

^ alot of things arent mentioned in VW manuals. Yes it would just be the electric water pump running for 5 mins or so running coolant through the engine block and turbo to cool everything down.

Took me ages to even find the word Turbo in the booklet

Ahh thanks guys. I had a feeling it was normal but I think it was just that it's starting to warm up these days so it could have just been a coincidence.

I've also only started noticing the sound after she had her first service a couple of weeks ago.
