    Pros and Cons of Polo GTi

    Hi! Sorry if this may have been asked or mentioned about a while ago, but I'm tossing up between a Golf Gti or a Polo Gti. But I don't really know that much about the Polo's, so what would the biggest pros and cons of getting a Polo Gti over the Golf Gti be??

    Thanks heaps!!

    For me the clincher (other than price) was that the Polo is a less serious car. For some people I guess that would be a con?

    Exclusivity I guess? Doesn't really bother me either way, but there are a lot more Golf GTI's out there than Polos...

    I was also tossing up between the Golf GTI and Polo GTI. My parents have the Golf 118TSI. I got the Polo at the end because these factors:
    * Cheaper with same-ish performance (same 0-100)
    * Better fuel economy
    * Felt more zippy than the Golf
    * Less of us around

    The advantages of the Golf over the Polo for me was:
    * Interior and boot space
    * More aftermarket stuff
    * More reliable engine?
    * Slightly better quality/build

    But I couldn't justify the extra costs nor did I need the extra space, thus I ended up with the Polo

    Thanks heaps. Yeah the price is probably the biggest factor I guess. In terms of the "fun factor" are they as good as the golf? With the ecu tune they go pretty good don't they?

    Is that mainly due to the fact of their weight difference or power delivery?

    For me the Golf is the more well travelled path - the safe choice.
    Personally I like to do things a little different.
    The golf is slower, more expensive, more common.
    The polo is faster, smaller and cheaper - plus more anonymous, only car people know what it is, it is only badged GTI externally.
    The bfyb beating of the golf is fun too - the golf is acknowledged as the benchmark performance vw, yet it never retained the title once the polo was released

    No one's mentioned that 6R Polo GTI's only come in Auto - that would be the deal breaker for me - go Golf manual hands down.

    yes, with a tune they certainly do go pretty good. They do have a small boot, but they are also a smaller car, lighter, smaller footprint and I feel it makes them very solid to drive.

    For me more than anything I didn't need extra space, so for 10 grand less I got a car that looked just as good, felt just as nice inside and went just as hard. Now that it is tuned, can't wait to sit next to a golf at the lights.....

    For me and the Mrs it was because the golf felt heavy and ponderous to drive compared to the zippy polo round our local streets. Of course the golf is not ponderous, but direct comparison made it feel that way. Same performance was cool and $12k saved was even better in our pocket. The size of the car is better for city parking as well, but we've carried all sorts of loads in our car and its been big enough so far that we havent wished for a Golf yet LOL

    It's personal preference really. I you are coming on here to ask polo owners which they thinks is better, guess what answer you are going to get....

    Yes the polo is cheaper and up to 100kph, performance is lineball. The golf rides better due to the independent rear suspension vs the skittish polo torsion beam. The polo is the firmer, stiffer car out of the 2 but responds quicker to steering inputs etc. the golf has lots of elbow room, the polo has the carry over mk4 golf stupid centre arm rest that gets in the way of the handbrake. Now the polo gets the nice Detroit wheels as standard, the fol is sill stuck with Denver's.

    Tuning wise, the golf gets more Goodies because a)it's been on the market twice as long and b) it's a helluva lot easier for people to get their hands in. The polo however is fairly new and because it's a rarer beast, you will find less cheap crap for it than the golf because only the reputable companies out there can get their hands on one.

    It's your choice but really, I think you are in the wrong place to get an unbiased opinion.

    GTIMk6 is bar far the best to comment. They have both a golf and polo GTI. Shoot them a PM.
