    Privacy Glass

    Hi All,

    I just wanted to know whether the My16 GTI 6C model comes with standard Side Rear and Back Privacy Windows, in other words dark tinted glass?

    I am awaiting the delivery of my car in April, and the car yard has thrown in free "tinting to match side rear and back window" based upon the advice of the sales rep that the back are factory tinted.

    But i have noticed in some owner's pics that their GTi rear and back windows are not dark at all.

    Any opinion or advice please?

    Many Thanks

    Mine came with a slight tint, but it has a green tinge to it. I got mine done at tint a car today with the darkest legal as it makes it black and gets rid of the green, but is now technically illegal as darkest legal film + OEM tinted glass pushes you over.

    I got 18% carbon, looks amazing and easy to see out of. Would recommend. Only $300.

    From factory, all side and rear glass has a slight tint but certainly needs further tinting. My Kluger on the other hand, definitely had privacy tinting so only needed the front doors tinted after sales by Solartint.

    Prior to tint (fresh of the truck);

    Do you have an Australian standard to back this up? If it is illegal, I will be removing my clear tint on my back windows immediately.

    I have clear tint on the back of my sport pack and matched dark tint on the front.

    Just google VSI 2 & 26 regarding window tint and privacy glass.

    Privacy glass is only permitted from behind the driver, light transmittance can be lower than even tinted vehicles, however must be manufactuer fitted(something to keep in mind if you have to replace a window) and cannot be tinted over.

    I've had a read of the VSI and this is what I found;

    As long as the visual light transmission is 35% or above then tinting the privacy glass is permitted.

    All glass we are referencing here is behind the driver, tinting a windscreen beyond the 10% strip at the top is illegal.

    Being clear tint on my glass, and the privacy glass being above 35% VLT, it is legal. (I've had this tested as my vehicle has had a RWC inspection done.)

    Thanks for the reference to the info.

    Privacy glass has no UV or solar heat gain protection, clear tint does.

    I liked the tone, so I didn't put a darker tint over it.

    I got tinted tint on the front to match the back.
