So I accidentally left the lights on my MY13 Polo and ran the battery dead a few weeks ago, I got a jump, went for a long drive and it was going fine...
Then this morning I come out and its dead again - so I realise I am going to have to replace my battery. Try to get a jump from my friend and the leads melted and started smoking, battery was completely gone and nothing would turn on in the car.
I went and got the appropriate battery from my local service station (not VW because its not open), replaced it and now the car starts no problems and most things work... That is apart from the power steering (orange steering wheel warning light) and the cruise control. I have tried to check the appropriate fuses but couldn't find a problem, tried the 'short' drive recommendation in the manual among so other methods of try to recalibrate the power steering with no success.
Has anyone had this problem before?? I don't know what to do except take it to VW?? Any other solutions/thoughts would be appreciated!
Cheers, HEadGaSKEt
Find an open area, turn the car off. Restart the car, drive forward, go lock to lock, then back to centre and accelerate to over 20km/h. The light may clear.

Took into the dealer today who has said that the harness that goes on the battery has been melted and caused the power steering fuse to blow at the battery. I didn’t realise there were other fuses there? Anyway, they are replacing it today and hopefully there won’t be anything melted further down... cheers guys.
