    I ran a 13.9 in my 2010 1.4TSI 6R GTI.

    Revo Stage 1
    Forge Intake
    Big Intercooler
    Federal RS-RR tyres
    H&R Springs

Hoping to get a much faster time in the future, as the launch was fairly awful.

Not bad dude! What was your driving method for the evening?

Traction off, and then manually shifting with the paddles, or running it in S-Mode?

Also what was the trackside temps like?

All passes were with AC, radio, headlights etc off
Best pass was with Traction Control off (but really there was no issues with traction either way, surface was basically glue)
    Car was always in manual
Handbrake up with T/C off and full throttle for burnout, move the wheel to 45° from center left and right to warm both tyres, release Handbrake and let the car roll out of the burnout, don't take off the throttle and stall the burnout
Handbrake up on the launch to load the engine up a tiny bit as left foot braking causes the car to have a cry
On second amber light; dump Handbrake and plant throttle
Shift at 5500 in 1st gear, run the rest out in manual

From the slip - air temp was 23°C, 0% Humidity

98.5 MPH and 2.19 60' I think the car can run considerably better, all of the passes have felt very rushed and imperfect. I will return and not focus on racing the next car and ignore R/T focusing on getting the launch perfect.

Thats pretty good going. I went for the very first time the other night in my polo 9n3 and did a 13.74 @107MPH but struggled with launching it. My 60ft times were terrible (2.6-7). There was plenty of other FWD cars doing 12.7-9 with the same MPH so there's plenty of potential for my polo be be in the 12's with a good launch.

Air temp was also 30 degrees and car was sitting in the pits for ages between runs getting quite hot so winter should be another story

Thanks for the wealth of info there.

Never thought about using the handbrake for the launch. Maybe I'll try it next time. Damn pity our cars don't have launch control. Does the HP DSG tune address that does anyone know?

Yeah I'm looking forward to taking my car back a week or two before they close for the season to take advantage of those cooler temps. As mentioned, my run was during a Perth heat wave with ambient temps of 38 degrees o the night.

There's a million variables, but how much could one expect to better their time on a cooler night? Is something like half a second possible?

Like you say there is loads of variables. It's a known fact cars make more power with cooler air intake temps, but in saying that it's also likely you will have less heat in the strip so therefore potentially less grip of the line.

Each car responds different to the weather, I could feel a big difference from the 30 degree weather driving there to the 21.5 degrees driving home. Definitely more top end pull and response feels much better too. Last year I went to watch some of the drag racing in peak winter and it was 8-9 degrees ambient temp so that will certainly be even better again.

Sometimes the cooler weather also means less people are inclined to make the trip out there, which can mean a greatly reduced time waiting in line for a run which will result in less heat being built up between runs. My intake manifold was hot before runs, by the time I got back to the lines it was quite cool but then would heat up again while waiting 45-60 mins waiting for another run.

    Just my thoughts anyways

The HP DSG tune allows you to left foot brake but no launch control.

Weather permitting, I'll be heading down Wednesday next week to go give it another crack.

Will be interesting to see how much ambient temp plays a difference (if any).

Just got back from the drags here in Perth.

After 4 attempts, I FINALLY managed to crack into what I was hoping for. Pretty happy!

    Track Temp: 18.6 degrees
    60': 2.18 seconds
    Terminal Speed: 162.8 km/h
