Possible Bent Valves (Failure of Waterpump)

    2014 Polo 1.4L Petrol

My water pump failed so badly that the timing belt has jumped several teeth and the motor would not start.
I replaced the Waterpump and Timing Belt, no joy on starting.
I am in the process of removing the Head at the moment to see the condition of the Valves. Now for the questions...

Can anyone tell me if this is an interference motor? (Valves hit pistons if timing is incorrect)
Has anyone had this problem/removed the head for rebuild?
If so, any tips or tricks?

I am pretty sure that is an interference engine; your best bet would be to get a cheap compression tester and check each cylinder or just bore the scope down the spark plug holes.
