Dear Gavs, I have you on one!

GTI Golf Cabrio. Which is into production! I win!!!

New platform for Polo will be out in 2014-15 I last read same with new Golf and all other VW cars etc. So don't think this one will make it to our shores... Old shape already!

Ok, so one, in a different form than presented at Worthersee mind you so technically it's still none

But you are right, I was mistaken with the platform update. With the new platform due in 18 months or so, why start production on a car that will last 12 months at the most. The updates to a production line specific to this model would be considerable, unless they do a really half-ars*d job of it. A limited edition I could see maybe happening, but not full scale production, not when the new platform has the allowance (rumoured) for fully independant suspension all around and AWD. Still, one can dream for a replacement

I know Gav may be smarting as he won't have the fastest production Polo then but bear with me, this may make sense.

From what I read the new MQB platform is going to use a completely new set of engines as well. So in all likelihood, this may give them a chance to stuff the old 210ps Golf GTI engine into an older platform and call it a special edition.

They've already put in an AWD train on an A1 which shares some kit with the Polo if they really decide to run with it. But I expect it would sell even without.

As for R seats, VW just buys them off Recaros. You'll find the R seats slight rebadged for Audis, Lotus even Mini Coopers.

It's still a proof of concept for now but I guess it may not be too difficult to put into production as a last hurrah to get rid of inventory kinda like the keenly priced M3 V8 Pure Editions and what nots

Polo R WRC Street will be produced in limited numbers from late next year, I would be surprised if RHD version is built, I suspect its FWD configuration with XDS.

I couldn't care less about not having the fastest polo model there is, my personal experience however from working in the auto industry dictates logically to me that the likelihood of this actually reaching full scale production is very very slim, like I said previously. A special edition ala A1 Quattro would be more likely but still, faster than a golf GTI also means more expensive than a Golf GTI. And realistically, with the marketing strategies of Audi Australia coming into play also (Golf R example) as well as cost positioning, would anyone really pay upwards of ~$45k for a Polo R when you could have a golf GTI with (theoretically) the same motor in it for less? Especially when (as pointe out) a new model on fully new and lighter platform Polo GTI would be released a mere 6-12months afterwards.

How about going the same route as the old Clio V6? Rip out the back seats and put a 2.0 Tsi in the back with RWD. I would pay for that!
Always really wanted to own the clio.. but there are no cars left that have not been trashed

Now THAT I would buy! Especially seeing as there is a V6 Clio near work and aside from looking ridiculous, any car that gets a "widow maker" term associated with it has to be a hoot to drive!

I think the Polo R concept simple shows the power output that the next Golf GTI will get (162kw).

The Polo GT shows the new series 1.4L engine (turbo only) in the Polo/Ibiza shell mated to a 6 speed manual. Best bet is the next Polo GTI will get a high output version of this (no supercharger) engine. The competition only have around 130ish kw/250Nm.
