Volkswagen Polo R: 'extremely sporty' model coming 2013 | CarAdvice

    Nice.
Will definitely test drive one if VW Oz make a successful business case for it.

    Ewwww

Front Wheel drive though...I sense torque Steer 101, a lot of oversteer...

A part from that...not a bad idea...problem is I sense one of two things:

    1 year+ wait

ADR or VAG will say they're not allowing/bringing in this new sportier model...

You'll be surprised how well to XDS and Electric steering prevents torque steering, especially with the heavier steering programs loaded.

With the new model Polo round the corner I reckon it's strange they would productionise an proper R model at this time... unless its easy, ie not that different from the GTI in its mechanicals and hence designed to test the water and fulfill the homologisation (sp?! LOL) requirements. And... that's what this sounds like when you read it... Ie a tuned Gti engine with maybe a larger turbo, new seats, and some other bits n bobs. My thought process leads me to think that the 'real R' will be in the next version of the Polo and that could be wide track, fully uprated suspension and engine and other parts. But what do I know?! nothing... of course.

And, what would an R version cost? Golf GTI money perhaps?

And... In 6R form, how close could you come with a local tune and a few upgrades for say a $3k spend on a Gti I wonder?

Interesting tho, it seems that VW have seen the potential of the Polo platform as a hot hatch and want to go further, thats great news for everyone I think. VW are on a bit of a roll with these cars I reckon.

From what I've read/heard the 6R will be around til minimum 2014/early 2015.

They will create a MK2 most likely 2nd quarter next year...thats my opinion.

Interesting thoughts Hail, I reckon you could well be right too.

To add to what i said above: I was reading some other Polo R stuff the other day and some say the plan is a 2 liter turbo engine. Id be interested to check the weights of the 2.0 vs the 1.4 as I wonder how the handling would be with more weight up front. With more power and more weight and FWD wont that mean serious understeer? It would need quite a bit of suspension work to sort that etc. Seems a lot of work for a limited number of cars... just my 2c.

guaranteed VW was planning this for a long time...the A1 Quattro? now this?

Come on...fantastic marketing strategy...and the punchline? They will most likely only produce 500...maybe less.

My replacement will be a Golf Gti or R by that time the price would have dropped. I consider it being the mistake I took when I bought the 6R.

In a year or two time...I'm shifting to Mercedes to be honest...the A45 AMG (2014) will be punching a rumoured 264KW AWD, park assist, brake assist, leather etc and it will most likely be priced between the Golf R and the BMW 135 Coupe....niiiiiceeeee

This is the Golf GTI variant the 250
