I doubt this is an R prototype, but it is interesting seeing the lead running out of the hatch, down under the car......
Have a closer look at the rear suspension and wheel arches and you will see it is definately not a stock GTI ..... this is in the vein of all prototypes and Autoexpress are rarely incorrect in their spottings and I bet you they have other inside info into what is in there .....

I doubt AWD, but will love it if it comes with it.

By the time this is released or even available here it will most likely be 2013. Long way off yet.

and is likely to replace the 1.8-litre TSI engine in the VW line-up which is currently one of the oldest and most inefficient engines
It is? I thought it was only a recent addition to the Audi/VW range (Passat, Audi A4)
And why would it need 155kw if you wanted "efficiency"?

Autoexpress, like usual, are pulling something out of thin air.

This could just be an AWD version of the polo under test. Much like the Audi A1 AWD.

do we need AWD, and the extra weight it implies, in a car in this segment?

or would it be nice to stop the whole "yup, let's make a fcking hatchback weigh ONE POINT SIX TONNES (RS3)", and work on getting the cars lighter and more communicative with the driver?

Sorry but due to unprecedented demand for your car it now won't arrive in Australia until 2074.
