No it's not, the very first gear selectors were the old, square-type selector.
the dealer demo would be a later model, there is no way they would still have a MY10 GTI there, it would be MY11.5 at the earliest. Did it have climatronic? WHat colour was the display if it did?
If it was MY10, it would have also had the 12v power socket in the boot.

Thinking about it, isnt this MY13 timeframe around the same time when the change to the new engine code was due to come through as well? I believe that change of code denotes the different pistons/rings as its major change?

From May 2012 any car ordered will have the "CTHE" engine code.
This is to try and get rid of the following issues with the cars.....
The ecu upgrades
fuel pump issues
piston rings
spark plugs etc
