Thread: Polo - High engine oil usage - Register

  1. #31

Anyone else have rings or engines replaced, or has VW fixed the issues these days?

I think it would be useful if people converted there oil usage to oil burnt/used per 5000km (or 15000km) of whatever is considered appropriate.
Makes it much easier to compare results

Or how about adding a survey to see how many people burn more than 0.5L per 1000kms

Guy, i think Kawabanga(an italian member on this forum) said that in Italy there was talk of new forged pistons being replaced(by VW) on a member who had replaced rings, then the breather pipe and finally had a new engine installed to no avail. He can clarify a little more about this.

Yes LocoPolo, rumors are talking about new forged pistons, but no feedback for now from those few people who are going to receive this modification.
I'm not even sure that they really are forged.

Do someone have access to ETKA? This should be the new code: "03C 107 065 CK" 2013

Like Daniel I only really do short journeys and the dealer has said both times that this isnt helping the car bed in. We have decided to do some longer runs to help get the rings bedded in better. The dealer said that VW wouldnt be interested in the consumption until after the 1st service (15k 12mths) anyway.

Oil consumption seems pretty constant, circa 1300 or so kms until the warning light both times. The tail pipes dont look that oily and the back of the car is not like the Exxon Valdez or anything, so can only assume its being flung out the back well enough...

Happy about it... not really. Do I understand my car is not very well run in as such... kind of. The salesman says 'VW run these motors in on the bench', the techs say 'you need to run it in'. The net says the rings are a loose fit so we get a revvy engine from new... VWA say nothing it seems.

Di I blame my dealer and have I suffered at their hand? no. They fill it up for free and offer advice. Cant fault that. Time will tell how they react and deal with VWA if I need warranty work on this engine I guess.

I can only think we keep logging the usage... thanks to the OP for providing this thread!

    An update:

    Date bought: Aug 2012
    Odometer: 6100
Total visits to the dealer regarding oil usage: 3 (+ 1 fill up by me - oil provided in bottle by dealer)
Time lost going to the dealer: 2.5hours all up door to door twice
Total oil used/added: 3.5 liters I assume (tech didnt not say and I didnt put much in when the light came on as its being serviced this week)
    Days without the car: 0
Date when diagnosed with high oil consumption: N/A
    Dealership name/state: McCarrols Hornsby
    Repairs done: 0

Oil light on and top up needed at :
    1300, 2600, 4250, 5500 kms.

Dealer still says that my short distances and the running in oil is the issue, not any engine fault. They maintain that the consumption will be better with more kms on it and when it gets non running in oil at the first service, which is this week. And yes its going to the same dealer, I just dont want anything to muddy the waters if I have to claim.

The bit about a different type of running in oil is a LIE, no one on this site had been able to confirm the existance of this fabled oil. I don't think your consumption will improve so keep pressing them for an oil consumption test.
