Police said there is a low chance of recovery and I am hoping insurance will pay out the full value!

Stolen from Wellington, New Zealand. Its such a distinctive car it may show up, but the police have better things to do than chase my car.
Damn, sorry to hear that Zepelin! I'm on holidays in the North Island (Taupo today heading for Napier then Ohakune) so I'll keep my eyes open. Of course, being a new GTI owner I've been looking for them everywhere over here but haven't spotted one yet - just some Mk6 and Mk5 Golf GTIs. I've only seen two 6R Polos in a week of travelling so far so seemingly not nearly as common as in Melbourne.

Does your car have any distinguishing features?

Good luck, I hope you get a favourable outcome one way or another.

    Cheers,

    Andy

Well I have some good news! Polo GTI found in Petone, Wellington on the side of the street by the police.

A old fella in the street rang it in after it had been sitting in the same spot for a week, the police siad he apparently saw someone drive it there in the middle of the night and run off, dont know why he waited a week but it has been towed to a recovery yard and is being fingerprinted tomorrow.

Cops said that one of the beautiful polished Detroit rims has been kerbed and scratched and rear window was down a bit but apart from that no visual damage.

After fingerprinted she will be towed to the local VW dealer where they will assess all damage, give it a road test then repair everything for me. Insurance even said they will pay for whatever was stolen from inside the car. Ipod, cds, tennis racquets so that is good. And a new set of keys and locks (because the crooks still have one set of keys) which is supposed to cost a bomb because of the coding etc.

Only bummer is the $500 insurance excess I have to pay. But shes back

Girlfriend wants me to sell it now that it has been 'violated' !

Geez thats lucky, I hope it hasnt been mechanically trashed and had years of life driven out of it. Hopefully they were part way smart criminals who didnt want to attract attention to a car load of stolen gear and treated it kindly.

I wouldnt have given any chance of it turning up without being burnt out. I've had the same car attempted stolen 3 times and not once did it get fingerprinted. Clearly your police arent too busy at all.

Yeah I want a full check done, including a test drive to make sure they didn't thrash the life out of it. I think the idea of a safe in the house or leaving the spare key at a different location than where the car is parked could be an idea for the future. Because I think it would be hard to steal one of these cars without the keys, although an expert car thief could probably do it.

A small safe for things like that could be the go but I don't know about leaving the spares else where just from a convenience point of view. I have left my keys at work by mistake and it would have been a PITA if the spares were across town at my parents rather than with my Wife at home.

That aside I know some people who had someone break in at night (while they were home and sleeping) only to find the main car keys (and wallets) and then steal the car anyway. People are bastards pure and simple and will find a way to steal your stuff anyway.

Happy for ya mate! Good ending to a bad story, I swear we work hard for what we have and these idiots just think they have he right to steal, bums totally. I'm in SYD but last year was in Auckland, Waitomo, and got carjacked, stole all my luggage everything. But what can ya do, this life. But glad you got it back, just remember to keep the spare key at a friends or neighbours or family's house next time!
