lol... you do realise what "ETA" means don't you?

The reason they say "ETA" and not "Guaranteed Day of Arrival" is because Volkswagen are not God. Unlike God, Volkswagen have no control over things like the weather, which is one of the many many things that can influence the actual arrival date. Nor to Volkswagen have control over shipping companies, dock workers, compliance workers, train operators, truck operators, etc etc.

Ok, so I might have a few more posts, despite cancelling my order a friend with a lot of industry connections has passed on the details of my Polo GTI ordering issues to the head of VW Australia. Still going to go ahead with the C30 at this stage, but will let you guys know what kind of response I get.

My mistake, poor representation of my conversation. The term ETA wasn't used in my conversation with VWA. I was told that I have been allocated week 13 build date. ETA was used however in regard to the arrival of the ship and the subsequent delivery to dealer and to me.

Build date is what matters. I agree that ultimate delivery is dependent on a number of factors, but if it ain't built it ain't going anywhere.

My comments were intended to communicate that I will hold VWA accountable for a Week 13 build.

How are you guys contacting VW Australia? I ordered my GTI 2 weekends ago and my dealership has been completely unhelpful with information on what's happening with my order. They're saying they have no idea what their allocation is and have heard nothing from head office. This contradicts what I've heard from other dealers though, who are saying all the allocations have been made and dealerships are aware of what orders will be on prolonged delay (and have for quite a while).

Can I contact VWA directly about this? I'd like to know what's going on with my order.

Contact VGA via their web site and there is a 1300 number for customer care, just cannot recall what it was when I contacted them. Your dealer SHOULD know by now. You must push him for this information, otherwise talk to his manager. He may be stalling and avoiding telling you that your order may not be in this year.

Guys, I really feel for you whilst reading all these threads on wait times for the GTi. Whilst I am in no way an expert, I tried to think laterally once I made the decision to purchase a GTi and was aware of the wait times. I posted a "wanted" ad on this forum, along with countless phone calls to every dealer in NSW. I got the run around from a local dealer when going there to put down a deposit for a delivery in mid Feb, but thats another story. Then finally found one available within a week 2.5 hours away. Cut a long story short, make phone calls, you may be lucky to find dealer outside of the more populated areas that has one unallocated.

    Good luck guys.

Can I please give you some friendly advice here. I'm writing this in blue so that EVERYONE can spot this easily.

If you're ready to complain after 2 weeks then you have made a grave mistake by purchasing a "to order" car. I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you can't wait two weeks without wanting to resort to calling head office to complain, you should probably cancel your order now and go and find a car that is already in stock at the lot and you can drive away the next day - 2 weeks is not reasonable for ANY factory order, let alone a car which is well known to be sold out until next year. There are going to be SEVERAL two week+ time periods in which NO dealer could give you any update, regardless of manufacturer.

When the initial orders of Golf R's went in, the majority of us had to wait 2 to 3 months before we were allocated a build date. Our cars then still arrived in 5 to 6 months from the initial order date. There were also 2 week time periods between product apparently having started and cars appearing on shipping tracking sites. Depending on shipping route you can find two periods where the ships are not on the radar for almost 2 weeks each. Then once the car gets here, it can be two weeks between it getting off the ship and it arriving at your dealer.

If you can't be patient and wait for a reasonable amount of time before complaining, all you're going to do is annoy and frustrate everyone that you will then be relying on to deliver and service your car after it arrives in the country - not a good idea! You know what they say, you shouldn't complain about your waiter before they've delivered your food... otherwise the chef might leave you a surprise (Ok... so most of our dealers are more professional than that... but hey!).

Compare your situation of 2 weeks to many others in this thread (and others) who ordered in November and have just found out their details in the last week or so...

Maybe I wasn't clear; I'm not complaining about having to wait, I knew it would be a 6-12 month wait when I ordered and was happy to hold out for such an awesome car. I'd just like to know if my order is in this year's allocation, considering I ordered around the time allocations were distributed (meaning I probably missed out). I'm being told dealerships are now aware of 2011 allocations, and they know how many GTIs they've got on order. So it's simple. If they were allocated 4 GTIs and mine was the 8th on order (for example), I'm entitled to know so I can decide what to do.

If I didn't make this year's allocation, they might be inclined to play dumb to prevent me from cancelling my order. If they've been given their allocations, then they should be able to cross check with how many orders they have and give me a rough idea of what's going on.
