    Say what now?

    The dealers in Perth don't even have demo models at the moment!
    How did you snatch one from us?

    Well it's stock bound for Sydney. It just gets to Perth first and then gets sent to us.

    I was lucky. Most cars selling in Sydney are 3 doors. VWA expected more people to buy the 5 door so they brought more of them in.

    Good for me.

    I wasn't fussed if I got a White/Silver or Black one.

    Black will look brilliant.

    I drove the white one and it looked really nice.

    How are the 3 different driving modes?
    Sports?
    Normal?
    Manual?

    What would be appealing (especially for daily commuters) is that if the manual/sports modes are fun enough, there's the option of normal mode (which, in my experience, there are always times, say in grid-lock, where you don't want to deal with a manual transmission).

    Normal (D Mode) is like an auto. Slick changes, no jerkiness.

    Sport Mode (S Mode) is where the fun is. Paddles are excellent. Gear changes are quick.

    Manual Mode (D +/- Mode) Didn't really use that. I was more interested in S and D mode as they are likely to be the ones I use most.

    In D Mode, the car is much quicker to downshift to a lower gear that my Dad's Golf Wagon. It feels like a much nicer DSG.

    The turn of speed is amazing. You read all the reviews and all the spec sheets, but nothing prepares you for such a "ferocious" turn of speed.

    Nice.

    Matter of interest, what's your car's build date?

    Ahh so I had it wrong - thought "S" mode was the more aggressive auto mode, when in fact it's a paddle-only mode?

    & you can't use D with paddles, only stick shift +/-?

    So it's;

    D - auto
    D - semi-manual (+/- stick shift)
    S - manual (paddles)

    You can use the paddles in S mode or you can let it shift for you. It can be an aggressive auto or a flappy paddle box.

    You can use the D mode with the paddles as well. The car reverts back to normal mode if you don't use the paddles for a while.

    Not too sure on the build date, haven't seen the car yet.

    Thanks, Hooti3.

    So;

    D - auto
    D - semi-manual (+/- stick shift)
    D - manual (paddles)
    S - auto
    S - semi-manual (+/- stick shift)?
    S - manual (paddles)

    What is the point of the +/- stick shift by the way? Is it just an alternate to using the paddles?

    So;

    D - auto (Yes)
    D - semi-manual (+/- stick shift) (Yes but have to move it into +/- Mode)
    D - manual (paddles) (Yes, but reverts back to D when you don't use the paddles for a while)
    S - auto (Yes but holds gears longer)
    S - semi-manual (+/- stick shift)? No.
    S - manual (paddles) (yes)

    +/- mode is exactly that. Just an alternative to paddles. I prefer the paddles myself.
