Probably the subframe moving.
Hi all,
I purchased my 2016 VW Polo GTI My17 manual in January this year, had it shipped from overseas. After driving around for a while I noticed sometimes that there was a slight ‘knock/clunk’ noise coming from the front end when:
- I would be driving forward
- Put it in reverse
- When reversing as soon as i touched the brake i would hear the ‘knock/clunk’ once
When I took it in for the first service (1,500km) I let VW Service Centre know about the issue and they assured me it was normal.
Now I’ve driven the car a little bit more and the clunk happens every time I do what was mentioned above and also sometimes when I’m driving forward and brake.
Is this normal?
Thanks in advance.
Probably the subframe moving.

My brakes clunk in reverse, read previously in the forum it's a common/normal thing. My previous Polo 6R was the same.
Can't say I have ever heard the brakes clunk when going forwards though.

As per above, subframe 'walk' is common, as well as brake calipers knocking.

Can confirm my car does the exact same thing, 2015 GTI manual 1.8 motor.
