    Polo GTI - Launch sequence?

I'm told on good authority that the Golf GTI has a special launch mode that one can access by following a hidden sequence of button pushes, and I think I saw it demonstrated on Top Gear once.

Anyone know if the Polo GTI has something similar?

Nope, dry clutch-pack DSG gearboxes don'e have launch control due to lacking the cooling oil to stocp the clutches form frying. Launch sequence is hold brake, hold revs around the 2000rpm mark, step off brake and floor it Then watch the Golf GTI owner bog down from not using launch control or still sit there pressing buttons! Ha Ha!

    lol @ gavs

After going to WSID with my R, I've discovered that once LC on the Golf is activated once, you can activate it again the next time you stop simply by flicking the DSG selector to D and then back into S (or M) again. This is particularly important at the drag strip if you're trying to compete for "reaction time" (not that RT is included in the final time on the non-pro meets).

So yeah - you won't have any chance of beating a Golf 6 owner who knows what they're doing.

As for loading up the revs against the brake on your Polo's.... OUCH. I'm not surprised to hear that idea failed for broxigar1983, cause if the car didn't drop the revs and stall, it'd only be able to maintain the revs at that by slipping the clutch enough, which would mean it's far worse than having a LC and using it!

Yep, that is why I only tested it once

Reminds me of the original WRX's... Only took 3 hard starts by slipping the clutch and it would be time for a gearbox rebuild.

Some have suggested the gearbox will only tolerate 255 Nm of torque - hence the risk of launching it this way.

So does that mean ECU upgrades yielding an excess of 255 Nm are risky? How risky?
(In another thread, DNA claims 300 Nm...)

That's already answered in many other threads on the topic of the gearbox itself, or tune upgrades.

I launched ours about 50 times, we have way in excess of 300nm - anyway, it only lets us load up to 2000 rpm so its not very exciting!
