Thread: Polo GTI High Oil Usage - Discussion Thread

  1. #1371

If anyone has experienced similar issues to me with their Polo GTI, and are interested in joining a group legal action, please contact me. The issues may be as below:

High & excessive oil consumption (regardless of VW's "spec")
    Pre-ignition & detonation issues
Abnormal amounts of black oily soot at the vehicle rear
    DSG and clutch issues
    Innefective and multiple repairs
Perceived lack of transparency and truthfulness form the VW network

Please PM me or contact me on info@vwpologti.com

Please provide me with your return email address and a very brief outline of your problem, and how you would ideally like to see the issue resolved. I have on board a highly qualified individual (previous member of the bar) who has had multi-million dollar class action wins against the government. His identity can & will be provided to you if you contact me with the above information.

    Regards
    RossP

The fabia section doesn't seem to have people reporting of oil usage here but its same engine so surely same issues?. Read on a finnish site Vagareena that was posted early in the thread and there was one polo gti owners engine using +6L in 30k.

Whats the RRP on a 1l topup bottle at VW

Quotes for the truth! My first red gti hardly used much oil I think I was 1lt down at 5k km with a full self oil change. My new white gti guzzles through the oil . at 5k Kms I had consumed at least 1.5-2lt of oil and I am at 21k Kms now and I have lost count how many times I have had to self top up. Right now its low on oil again and I have to take another trip to the dealer for more oil, so I can do a full oil change. I ran in both cars in the exact same fashion and that's hard from the get go and drive the in the same manner. Unfortunately after owning two of these cars , I take it as part and parcel of ownership and just deal with it. I could easily go back to a dealer and crack a hissy fit about consumption, but I have very little time to bother and have the car off the road with all the hassle. I might get a proper sample for a full oil analysis this time round.

    MY12.5 GTI

1 litre of oil topped up at 2500kms

1.4 litres of oil topped up at 7500kms

Is this normal? They are doing a kiwi shell be right consumption test now: "Come back in 1000kms or whatever and we will see how much oil it has used" If its above x then we will do the new breather valve, if its above some other value then we will go to VW New Zealand to await further instructions.

Car seems great apart from this.

Just finished latest official oil consumption test:

711km, 1.3litres of oil consumed. That's 1.83l/1000km, getting worse as last weeks was 1.62l/1000km. Back of car is absolutely covered on oil.

VWA have all the evidence now and have agreed to an engine replacement, which is on it's way to the dealer.

I haven't heard of any worse oil consumption than this.

Im experiencing high oil usage also, I cant recall the amount of times I have topped up but Im now on my 3rd 5L Oil purchase which is nearly finished. I dont have the time to call into the dealer for a top up when needed so I just purchase my own. I've been using Liqui Moly 5W-30 for the most part, interesting to note that Castrol Longlife Professional 5W30 seems to improve the consumption level.

I've been told by my service adviser that VW Aust are waiting till the vehicle reaches 12mths or 15,000km before attempting the consumption test. Here's an extract from his email.....

I have checked in with Volkswagen technical in regard to your oil consumption concern as I have noted the same concern with other Polo GTI’s. It appears there procedure with vehicles with this concern is very sticked. Volkswagen have advised that once the vehicle has reached 12 months of age or travelled 15,000 kilometres we must then after completing the 12 month or 15,000 kilometre service start an oil consumption program for the vehicle. This will involve using travelling 1000 kilometres in the vehicle after the service is compete, once the vehicle has reached the full 1000 kilometres the oil will then be drained and measured to confirm how much oil has be consumed. If the consumption readings recorded are outside of Volkswagens specifications the engine will need to be inspected further.

That's some pretty poor grammar from your mechanic right there.

I dumped the oil in mine last night at 21k km's thats 6k km's after the 15k service and there was 2.25lts left in the sump ! Not good !
Any replaced with 4lts of fresh castrol, new oil filter and sump plug from VW.
