Always bet on Gavs! You're right. Although no paperwork until the consumption test is done. Had them look at the DSG, there's another software update for it. Although I didn't see the results of the test so I'm hoping that's with the paperwork when I go back for the oil......

Wouldn't know the part number of your DSG would you by chance? Mine is becoming lazy so it might do with an update, though when Jake had his updated, that's when all his dropping-clutch issues started.....

No idea mate - that's not detailed on any of the paperwork!

I've had mine drop twice in the last two weeks - hence the trip back - they didn't seem concerned but again, I haven't seen the paperwork to know what they've actually tested. Will monitor over the next few weeks.

They said to me yesterday that if I've touched the DSG (modified) then they won't even look at it and that they've had a few cases of that there with the GTI. heheheh

Hi Guys, just thought i would chime in - I have done 2500k now with my CAVE GTI 2012 and it shows almost no oil usage and the DSG is running great. Feel sorry for those of you who are less lucky

I'm starting to see more people with oil issues after their 15,000km service.

My MY12.5 has had the following top ups: 21,600kms now on ODO.

    800mls @ 2,700kms
    900mls @ 7,900kms
    About 113mls per 1000kms before 15,000km service

    1000mls @ 20,000kms
    500mls @ 21,600kms
    About 215mls per 1000kms after 15,000km service

My trips since the 15,000kms have become shorter and in warmer weather.. but I am doubting it would contribute to that much more burn...

Just seems a little too common, reading through this and the other thread.

Has anyone ever decided to try and clean inside the tailpipes? I swear it isn't soot, more like sticky oil that refuses to come out of the sponge.

My car's oil consumption has been impeccable since the 15K service.

That's because they have become too chicken-s*it there to do anything anymore. I personally don't trust them after they screwed me around and they said a few things to me that just highlighted that they actually don't have any f**king idea what they're talking about, like the rest of them.

A good customer repore is everything but can instantly be dissolved with comments that show that you know nothing about what you are saying. Especially when VW dealerships have the reputation that they do.... Little do they know that the mechatronics units that they are fitting to customers cars are repaired and rebuilt in dandenong for example and that the original factory isn't in germany like they said.....

My partner and I recently bought her a my13 polo gti. The funny thing is as we were talked through the car by the salesman, my partner (who got used to checking the oil in her old excel) asked "How do I open the bonnet to check the oil?". To which the salesman replied "Ill show you where it all is, but with a new car like this you wont need to check the oil at all."

I only read through about two pages before I ran outside to check the oil. We are about 1200ks in, and it looks to be about 1/5th the way into part B on the dipstick. I dont have access to the manual right now, but from what I have heard from here, that equates to about 100-200mls? Which I guess puts it in the moderate category. With respect to run in, the partner drives reasonably gently, while I push it a bit harder. I really have no idea about how to run in a car like this. Once again the salesman said that "with cars like these, they are run in by the factory, and ready to take punishment as soon as you drive them out the door". I usually err on the side of respecting the car, and luckily this was no different.

Can someone explain why loading the engine up helps? Ive heard quite a few people talk about forcing it uphill in a high gear. I have always assumed this was relatively bad for the engine?

Loading the engine forces the piston rings against the bores so that they are scrapped against the bores more firmly to get a better match between the mating surfaces. It does this using abrasion. The theory behind why the soft run-in is bad is because the rings end up polishing the bores and you get glazing of the bores.
