Does anybody know the version of ECU firmware that is updated for the oil usage issue? Does it help? I know that my car is going better since they have replaced the ECU firmware, but it certainly hasn't done a thing for oil consumption. The dealer won't put the ECU upgrade on paper.

Had breather pipe #03C 103 474 AD installed, made no difference to oil consumption 7/2/13 travelled 738km, oil light on topped up 1l; 15/2/13 travelled 609km, oil light on topped up 1l; 19/2/13 latest software update, dealer overfilled not sure how much oil added; 8/3/13 travelled 1113km oil light on topped up 1l.
Hope I can last till next Monday before oil light comes on as I have no more oil to top up - car is going in for connection pipe between air intake and intake manifold #6R0 129 684 E & ventilation hose for the air intake #03C 103 558 AA. replacement.
I am a bit pessimistic that it will make any difference. Wondering when enough is enough? Anyone with consistently worse oil consumption than this?
CAVE at 8000km, oil usage getting worse not better with mileage and updates. Reckon I've gone though at least 8l of oil.........
Car goes great btw, can't understand why I haven't fouled any spark plugs yet.

Exactly the point I have made. If one can prove that the vehicle is defective as per sale description in regards to emissions compliance, you can reject the vehicle and contrary to what any dealership employee will say, if they don't try to fix it and / or can't fix it, you are entitled to a refund or replacement vehicle.
fontana302, you should start looking into a) going to another dealership and b) legal action. your car is well outside acceptable levels, your engine should have stripped down and re-built as well as the fitment of the breather pipe.

Got my Gti back from the VW workshop they installed new breather pipe... car feels so much better. Not sure if this is because I was driving around a Polo Trendline the entire day but we'll see how the oil consumption is now.

Just in response to emissions guys, I had mine tested as part of the case put up to the CTTT. The thing is that the nitrous & noxious emissions are pretty much normal in the cars. That is all that the authorities care about as far as defects go. Of course, the carbon figures and fuel consumption were way out of whack compared to spec - they did the correct "euro" drive test & carbon emissions were almost 50% above factory specs. So that is going to be part of the ordered repair of the car - getting the emissions to factory spec. I wish them luck. In NSW free Roads & Maritime Services emissions testing is available at Penrith & Bondi I believe.
Not sure if this is off topic but what temp would you guys say your oil shouldn't exceed?
