Maybe you could make a note of the engine numbers and compare old vs new?

If it is a new engine then it will have a new engine number.
They could also do an engine rebuild in which case it would be hard to know exactly what they have done, other than trusting what they say.

Took my 12.5 Polo GTI For its 15,000 km 1st service to Goldcoast VW very happy with service and Their attitude complained about high oil usage they acted on it and ordered the part ....

As per TPI 202552016.... Crankshaft ventilation Hose ( proper name not oil breather hose )

Also ordered a new Brake boost sensor as it was faulty . Part number G294

Carried out campaign 37 G7 DSG Software upgrade

OIL used was Valvoline Synpower XLIII 5W 30

I got a call from them today also about getting this part. They said I wasn't the 1st to do so today. You beat me to it.

I stand to be corrected on this ....... but the Crankshaft ventilation hose works by allowing crankcase to breathe easier stops it from pressurising , means oil is not forced up beyond the piston rings in to the combustion chamber thus reducing pressure in the sump .

It doesn't because all they replace is the block and pistons, the head stays the same which carries the engine number. An ingenious thought on Vws part so they can continue replacing blocks without anyone the wiser.

A revelation to me. In this case could we replace a new 1.6L block in and stay legal?

Without knowing these engines well, my assumption is, it is unlikely you could do that.
If the 1.6 L block has different bore centres or bore diameters then you have an issue.
Is the combustion chamber in the head or is it in the top of the pistons?
The other question is will the cylinder head even bolt onto the 1.6L block?

You could however certainly change the crankshaft and conrods to increase the stroke of the 1.4L

EDIT: It is so much cheaper to get an APR Tune though, and if you still want more power then put in a better intercooler
