The engines are defective. Plain and simple....but if i was VW i would be asking there engine building department what is going on....Obviously there is a quality checking system in place. Engines with incorrect measurement tolerances shouldn't make it into the vehicles.

I am wondering if the lazy gearbox has anything to do with it? The engine is never really worked around town... it just wants to get up to the highest gear possible and just doesn't go through a whole range of revs...personally I can't stand it and always drive in manual or sport mode...just as I got the new engine my work has changed to be a short commute in stop start traffic (the worst kind) .. not great for running in a new engine but this wasn't my plan! I miss my old commute which involved hills, freeway driving, varied speed limits and not much traffic. But seriously.. for a new car to be this fussy/fragile about run in procedure??

Its not good Karly. Just make sure you keep all the evidence. Maybe you should have a chat with the fair trade ombudsmen or some legal advice if you keep having issues with the car. Its not satisfying your needs or your requirements because of an engine which doesn't like to play.

My 77TSI manual loves to be in the lowest gear possible...It always tells me to change because of fuel consumption reasons which it is one of its major design targets. I am guessing the computer in the DSG is playing a similar game.

fun fun. Even go and whistle blow your story to the newspapers......That seems to upset car companies and make them do something.

So after the dealer tellin me the piston rings will be replaced - two weeks ago after waiting 3 weeks for them to tell me that! - Friday they call me saying they're replacing the whole engine with a new one and it'll take TWO more weeks. least getting new engine... But will it be the updated engine? The one where they've fixed the oil issues that I had etc that the new Polo GTI's will get from mid this year?

If they fit another engine will be a overhauled one. Not brand new made from scratch.

Even if my GTI used a little amount of oil until now (0.7l per 10.000Km), I checked air intake pipe to see if the oil separator could actually be "the problem" of TSI engine...

Look at the pics: the problem is that I found oil out of the separator and just where the separator goes into the main intake pipe (pic#3).
So the separator doesn't work properly!

Gav, let me know your ideas...
People who have high oil consumption should check if they found a larger amount of oil there...

I don't think that would effect it as much as the piston rings and the cylinder clearance.

Driving at low speeds, lazy gearboxes, loading a cold engine? Really guys, there is only one logical and admitted issue and that is poor manufacturing tolerances. The blowby is obviously partly to blame also due to the new oil separator being put in the CTHE motor but as I have said before, don't expect any admission of guilt or any real fix, otherwise it would have been done. Still not convinced that the new motor will be rid of these problems either...
