It was an 'Are you serious' moment when he said he hadn't heard about it.
If anyone can get the service bulliten for the issue I'm happy to forward on!!
Yeah Gavs, Frangers Bayside.
Aside from the fact that service bulletins that have been sent to the other dealerships around the country get sent to all the VW service departments over the country and with this specific issue, around the world. That's amazing that he has not heard of it, who would have thought!
I'll bet he will say the same thing about the attempted squeaky supercharger clutch service bulletin
Outskirts of melbourne..... That would be Bayside in Frankston, Bayford Epping or Essendon VW yeah?

Speak to GTI Mk6 on here and you will find out about more than a few screw ups at the hands of Bayside VW and especially their former manager, like forgetting options etc and a supposed head office order cancelation which had "somehow happened before on another occasion"....

So here's the update.
Since replacing the piston rings, in about 1000k's the car has used 1.1L of oil. Mind you before they replaced the piston rings it was around the same. I purchased another 5L of oil to top it up, now that's 16L of oil purchased in total. The car only has 11000k's!
VW customer care got back to me and basically said oil is a consumible and there is nothing they can do about it. Naturally i lost it!
He kept trying to point out that they have fixed the problems under warranty and that in the owners manual it says that for the first 5000K's it may use upto 3L of oil every 1000K's and then after that it may use upto 1L of oil every 1000k's. I asked the question, dont you think that would be worst case scenario depending on how you drive the car? He couldnt answer me.
Funny thing is, when the car had a "reported problem" it was using the same amount of oil it is now when they have apparently fixed the problem.
I think the next step for me is to take it up with the service manager at the dealership where i purchased the car and if no luck i may just have to take it up with consumer affairs. How can you expect to have put this much oil through a brand new car?! What a joke!
Have you asked the service department to supply you some oil? I'd be surprised if they were not willing to given the circumstances. I don't think that VW customer care are the people to ask, they're desk jockeys not service people.
I'd give it a few thousand more Ks before getting too excited about the oil consumption post re-ringing, but I'd certainly expect some assistance with the oil, it would be good PR for the dealer.
Cheers

Thought I would give my experience.
I have a Mk6 GTI (Sept, 10 build date) that I received in late February 2011. It currently has 12,500 km on the clock and I've topped up about 3.5 litres of oil (top up with Penrite Enviro + 5W-30). I dont know what the oil level was like when I received it.
I have to drive a fair distance to work everyday with it (about 40km one way) which is steady, 100kmph driving however I have to go up and down the Toowoomba range which means it sits at about 4000 rpm on the way down (engine braking) and about 3000rpm on the way up. Anyone think that sustained, low rpm (i.e siting on 100kmph in cruise control) will save more oil than stop start city driving? Or perhaps traversing the range each day helped "set" the engine.
It drank about 2 litres up to 7000km, but from 7000 to now (12500) its only been through about a litre or half or so. I am very lucky considering what other people have gone through!
The loading of the engine would have help to push the rings into th bores so yes, mountains are the best for running in off a dyno.
The service department will offer you free top ups if you ask, especially seeing as there is an issue. Oh, id also call customer care back and let them know forcefully that the manual states 1L/2000, not 1000kms and alert them that if the situation isn't rectified to your satisfaction, you will go and get a refund by rejecting the vehicle and publicise your problems with the be community in Australia
