Had the 15,000km service done recently (not @ VW) and now about to reach 20,000km. The car was filled with Penrite and I've not used a drop of oil since.

    Very happy

Sorry to hear Tay, keep at them and get it resolved to your satisfaction
Also anyone here running an AOS setup? That's air oil separator to recycle excess blow by oil back into the sump?

I'll be heading in tomorrow morning for another topup.

This will be the third litre going in now at just under 13000km.

Yeah anyone running with the new oil separator setup yet?

Coming up to her first service and want to see if it likely that they will do it as part of it?

Rather interesting observation. Keep monitoring and let us know. Now to think of it, I replace the factory filled oil with Mobil1 5w30 at 600km, 1200km and so on. Now it is heading to 6500km and never added any extra oil other than noticed a 1-2mm drop on my dipstick after I did a 1300km highway run at high speeds.

The issue here is not the air/oil seperator but why there is so much oil to seperate in the first place. Answer is piston rings blow-by. A healthy engine will not see that much oil at the air/oil speperator and that is a fact. Just ask the dealership to perform a cylinder leak-down test and it will show where exactly is the problem area/s

    Hey all,

Firstly sorry to everyone who is experiencing issues, fingers crossed I don't join you. I am wondering what your opinions are on the oil itself. Obviously VW has a recommended oil, but is everyone thinking that maybe it's not the best oil for the job? and if so, what is everyone getting good results from? I have only just taken delivery and i'm hoping to get off on the right foot.

    Thanks all,

    Kez

I haven't seen any evidence that the oil itself is an issue.

As for choice, you can use any oil that is approved to 502/505 or 504/507 (recommended).

In the 4 times I needed to top up it was either Penrite or LiquiMoly. Never did I go back to VW for free top ups before the 15K service.

I honestly believed my car would continue to burn oil after the service but not so far.

Search under engine running in and push the car hard when the oil is 88-90 degrees. Details are in the past posts. Other PGTI owners here all have oil issues be it minor or major. Mine none.

I have no oil issues, 23,000kms and only 2 litres have gone in.

So long as you put in 504/507 approved oil it will be fine, side note here is that the extra top ups I have done, have both been when running the factory fill Castrol oil and again after the 15,000km service it was filled with Castrol. When I drained and refilled with Liqui Moly at 6000kms, I never topped the oil up in the next 11,000kms.
