I have noticed that it takes a good 10 minutes or so for the oil in the engine to get down to the sump , so unless you wait the 10 minutes you may not be getting a very accurate reading when checking the oil level .

My oil consumption appears to have improved , i have know done 1700km .

Thanks for the feed back guys

I agree, may be also more than 10 minutes: I found a little difference if measuring after 10 minutes or after about 30 minutes, one more little square on the dipstick was covered by the oil...
Of course this must be done when the oil is hot enough, if the measurement is done at cold start after having pulled out the car of the garage the oil will never completely get down to the sump...

    Hey guys,

I've been keeping an eye on my oil level since day 1, and the dipstick was at the low level by 1300km. This morning the "check oil level light" flashed when I turned on the car. It flashed twice and didn't come back after idling on level ground for a minute. It was parked on a slight uphill slant all night so I'm thinking that may have had an effect.
Oh well, time to visit Supercheap this afternoon.. and hassle the dealer

edit: Added 1L of Penrite Enviro+ and the oil on the dip stick is sitting at roughly 2/3 full. Car seems quieter and calmer on idle now

I'm on another consumption test after having my rings replaced in Jan.

Between raising the issue with the dealer and finding time to get there last weekend, it had burnt through 1l in less than 1000 kms.

I think I'll be getting a new engine.

I've had about 1.8l added so far and I just hit 5,200kms. First time was 0.8l at 2,700kms and then 1l this week at 5,200kms. It's still under what the manual says but by the looks of it, consumption is slowing increasing.

Luckily the dealer has no problems with topping it up for me.

    Hi!

I don't have a Polo GTI but I do have Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.4TSI

All I can say: My car suffered of high oil consumption and so VW decided to change the piston rings. Everything seem'd fine but my car started to have a knocking noise comming from the engine under low acceleration (between 2000-3000rpm) needless to say it started right after the piston rings change!

I then decided to take the car back to the dealer and make sure they would find the source of the noise. After 2 weeks without the car they told me it was fine and the noise could be related to different piston rings or oil and I shouldn't be worried (ofc I was worried).

2 Weeks later my car had power loss EPC and Exhaust lights came on. Called Seat Assistance and they took the car back to the dealer. The next day they called me telling that my car had low compression on cylinder 4. They are waiting for an answer from Seat(headquarters) to start ripping the engine apart.

So, what do you guys think? Was the piston rings causing this? Bad work from VW mechanics?

    Cyborgman.

Same issue with my 6R Polo GTi but never took the car in for a 100% check. They too said low compression in one of the cylinders. It's taken 3 weeks for them to look at the car. It goes on next week! The car rattles and has low power. I don't think the whole 132kw is used! Startles itself if I have to accelerate quickly as a car is driving towards me! Silly thing. The piston rings have NOT been changed, the oil consumption is high and the engine should be taken apart next week when taken in! Plus VW don't have a loan car for me until two days before the car gets taken in and they continue to tell me to bring the car in as soon as possible, when I told them the issue but I need a god damn car to drive with for my work but nothing from them!
