Rebuild you mean change of pistons and rings, right?
Can you please check in your work invoice (under guarantee) the codes of pistons and rings they installed...?
I guess are the old ones...

My gti is a late 2010 build, done 35,000kms. I bought 5 litres of oil when i picked up the car in january 2011, and always keep it to the top of the dipstik. I still have 1 litre left, I guess i got lucky. I have never paid much attention to how much is going in and when but as an estimate i've topped up with 2.5 up until the 15000 service and 1.5 up until the 30000 and havent added any since. One thing I do though is once the oil temp hits 90 I flog the crap out of the car, she gets a workout everytime I drive it.

Ahhh! Thanks for that! You guys and your TLAs...

On another note, my oil issues may be settling down... I haven't yet needed to top up in the last 4000km (since about 5000km, actually). Since the last petrol fill, the dipstick has dropped by half. Another 500km, and I reckon I will need to top up again.

Bought my 5 litre Shell Helix Ultra Extra (damn, they make it confusing...).

I never did use much WOT.

You may help with Google translator on this link, but one of the most credile theory of this two expert guys seems to be the engine architecture: open deck cilinders, very useful to cool down them, but very fragile if thermal shock is to high, or tightening with engine head is too weak. In this case rings are no more able to contain the oil, because cylinders are deformed...
This is one of the possible reason why some TSI are fine, some eat oil from the very fisrt mileage, some other after a certain milleage and so on...
The engine head is one of the main involved to keep the upper part of cylinders standing in an open deck, so assembly of the engine is very delicate...

If this is the real problem we will never have a concrete solution from VW...

Another crazy experience come out today from an Italian GTI's owner.
I'll translate with Google the entire message below.

    Re: GTI - Oil consumption

Post by Blackarrow '48 minutes ago
After more than 1 year, now I think I can write some objective consideration.
My GTI has always had an oil consumption of about 1 liter every 1200 km.
After several checks, weighing, etc. .. is about 6000 km I replaced the engine.
I was hoping to go well, but it did not happen. Currently, consumption and are almost identical at an altitude of 18,000 km.
I'm sorry if you have a new engine or replaced, from what I read and from my own experience, there is no current solution and not even know what to do. Shameful!
In part goes down, surely there are some engines that have an acceptable oil consumption or limit dell'accettabile. Then subrentrano driving conditions, I noticed that when using city and short distances, consumption remains high. With the new engine, after the first 1200 km (and a topping of 1kg!), I then traveled about 3800 km before needing to add another kg of oil. Kilometers traveled mostly on the motorway and long journeys.
Then definitely the type of use influence consumption. Another strange thing already said, is that you can travel hundreds of miles without the level drops a lot, then suddenly ounces of oil are burned in just about anything.
The fact is that we have a car that goes to the mixture and that the parent is not able to solve this malfunction.

My heart breaks, because prestazionalmente the engine is a masterpiece, as well as the Dsg.

Among all the gallons of oil made at my expense, mileage and time lost to checks and inspections and the car stopped about 10 days (without replacement vehicle) there is something to be really disappointed and angry!
Now starts the usual rigmarole of checking the consumption, then weighing, etc. .. but to what end? To change again the engine??

Why you just don't focus on the oil consumption in Australia? There is no need to drag here incomplete translate from another country. If you want to do that, then just post the link and who wants and can read Italian, can read it.

Ok, no problem, just wanted to share the problem that involves Polo GTIs, being them Italian or Australian...
The problem is global and when a solution will be found (now there is no solution, like it seems from my last post) will be a solution for Italian GTI's and Australian GTI's...

Anyway, I'll stop to share, no problem...
