I was thinking because I haven't had the car that long and the previous owner probably used oil from VW and it has been 6 months or more since the last service I would do an oil change.

    Would this be good enough?:

Yes it would be OK as it's 502.00

You guys in the UK have a much larger choice than us and many brands that aren't sold here. You'd be better off asking on a Brit forum. Have a look on Briskoda in the Fabia area - quite a few Fabia vRS that have the same 1.4 twincharger engine with all the usual issues.

No problem. Will have a look.

How easy is it to do a oil change on these? Is it just like any other by finding the sump plug and draining the oil.

I've been using Shell Helix Ultra Extra, It's the VW 504.00/507.00 one. Over the last 15000km it's averaged about 245ml per 1000km. The dealer has been using Valvoline Synpower XL-III, after the 15k service I found that the oil usage jumped to about 400ml per 1000km but as it's been slowly topped up with the Shell it starts to drop down.

Good too know. I think in the UK it is called Shell Helix Ultra ECT.

Seems the name has changed here as well - I can't find Ultra Extra any more, just Ultra ECT. I hope the formulation is the same, because, as mentioned, it lasts the longest in my vehicle.

    Wow this thread.

Don't want to seem ungrateful by not reading all 215 pages of comments but thinking of getting a 3 door polo gti MY12.5 and concerned about the oil issues. Read a fair bit already but was hoping someone could just tell me the answer or at least a good opinion straight out.

On the assumption there is no warranty (private sale), does anyone know how much I would be looking at if I did need to replace the pistons/rings/oil squirter to resolve this potential problem inc labor?

I just really love the 3 door and didn't want to be up for an outrageous cost if this car does have the problem in the future.

I'm not massive on the Polo forums (having owned a Mk5 Golf GTI) but I can't say that I have heard of engine failure due to excessive oil consumption, Polo or Golf.

My Mk5 was a heavy drinker. I would have put 40+ litres of extra oil through that car in the time I owned it and it never gave me a problem.

Oil consumption - as annoying as it is - is the least of your worries with a Polo GTI. Blown engines, water pumps, supercharger failures, clutch and gearbox failures....the list goes on.

Get a Mk6 GTI Golf if you want a glimmer of hope of getting a reliable car. Or save a few extra dollars and get the newly updated Polo GTi with the better 1.8L engine.

Anyone got part numbers for the revised oil squirters/jets or other parts required?
Anyone know how long it takes dealer to do it?

    Anyone had a leaking rockercover?
