First of all, I am not griping about anyone...

Except you, now, Mr High and Mighty.

If everybody followed your advice, 90 percent of this forum wouldn't be here. Fortunately, I'm convinced most other forum users don't see it your way.

So excuse me for stopping here first before taking a whole lot of extra time to traipse down to a dealer to MAYBE get an answer.

Perhaps you have all the time in the world, but I don't.

Now, if somebody else might kindly offer a response, that would be appreciated.

If not, I will, indeed take it to the dealer. And post my findings here, so others can benefit. As you would expect... from a forum like this..

    I'm with you.
Have no idea why VW would flash up all the other lights and not oil.
    My wife's NB does

You would also think the manual would have a picture of the dash lit up so as you did know where the "mystery" lights were

I actually took mine to the dealer.
They told me that the light worked - I was happy with that.
Never thought to ask WHERE the light was - d'oh

    Biz,

    Thanks for your generous response.

At least one mystery is solved - that the light is not intended to light up at ignition - very surprisingly... Very "bizarre" !

So in the end, even if you could tell us where the light was, one would still need to have it checked to make sure it is functioning correctly... or just trust that it is...

As I mentioned, my oil was pretty low - down in the C level, according to the manual diagram - but no warning light came on. I guess for me, anyway, it is a trip to the dealer to have mine checked. I suspect they will understand my concern...

    Thanks again, biz.

No need to go off on the "personal attack" road. But seeing as you have 'set the standard'..............I resent the cantankerous and non-sober remark. Mr Low and Weak. To resort to personal attacks, merely shows your inability to accept a written suggestion. You don't have to do anything. I am merely suggesting that you have invested $$$s into your car (with a value of warranty). Why not use the knowledge of the manufacturer? I hope the dealership are able to satisfy your enquiry.

In the end, you're going to do what I merely suggested. Hope the humble pie is to your satisfaction.

Ok, I have removed the statements to which you object from my post, but if you thought your implication that my question was crap, and that I was complaining for nothing, wouldn't be taken personally...

You didn't "merely suggest". That would have sounded very different.

As for humble pie, on the contrary, thanks to this conversation, plenty of other owners can rest assured if they've never seen their oil lamp.

All without needing to visit their dealer.

And that's what forums are about.

When I took mine to the dealer they checked the sensor and told me it was working.
This gave me some sense of comfort

Seeing as they chew a bit of oil I find it un-nerving that I have never actually seen my "protection"
I really dont feel like running it to "low level" just to see it work

If VW some how could do an update so as the light actually came on at start up ................

Guys kiss and make up ok.

FJ Steve, it's a forum, and it was a Saturday. Whilst it annoys me when people don't at least look at the manual, if everyone asked the dealers, then there'd be no point having a forum.
RoknRob, don't get sucked into responding with personal insults. Just leave the comment alone if you don't agree.

I know where rob's frustration comes from RE asking dealerships because as I have found, salespeople are just that and if you're lucky enough to speak to a proper service mechanic, who knows if they're a "shoulder-bolt" type mechanic or a proper, enthusiastic one who loves their job and wants to help.

This is a source of information and a knowledge resource, many cases in this section of the forum have shown why many times, it's wiser to consult here before a dealership

You are, of course, correct Corey, in that I should have let it slide.
    My apologies to FJ Steve.
No hard feelings on my end.

And thanks, biz and gavs, for summing up my insecurities.

    Let's move on, shall we?

Can't see what Saturday has to do with it.....

    Apology accepted Rob.

I know that the dealerships get pi$$ed when a customer comes in and says "the car is doing XYZ...and I read on the forum that you should be looking at ABC components and settings." As soon as you say "I read on the internet.......", your credibility get's shot down (somewhat).

My point was, if I have paid top dollar for a car, with warranty, I'm gonna use that warranty to my advantage and not the dealer's profit. If I'm having trouble resolving a matter with the dealer, then I'd be putting it out to the www to see if others are experiencing similar situations. But to ignore the 'expertise' of a trained technician firstly, to me, was where I was coming from. Be that as it may, it's your car, and your decision to do with it what you like. I'm sorry for getting a little peeved.

    Case in point.

A Sydney member (VW owner from here) PM'd me and went into great detail as to what was going wrong with his V6 engine. He asked me to ask the technicians at work (we're 4000km away from him) to diagnose the issue and report back to him. Can you believe that? Maybe I should've said "Yeah, the guys reckon you have a cracked head and gasket....best to replace the whole motor." I know he wouldn't believe me, so why ask me (on the other side of the paddock) what's wrong with his engine? It's like..."I wanna let you know what the problem is....but I'm not interested in your response".

I guess that PM set me going.

    Again....apologies to all.
