The oil consumption issue is a random pot luck issue? or it has been directly linked to not been run in correctly from new purchase?

Would the 2014 models still have this potential issue?

    Thank you
Yeah it seems to be potluck.
I went in knowing that but it just got frustrating along with other little things, I wouldn't risk it. I just got rid of mine after a year even though I had it all repaired, I just didn't trust the car anymore.

As others have said, it's 100% pot luck. No matter the engine combo, run in method, oil brand used, how you hold your tongue while doing a wee on a Thursday morning, it's all just pot luck. Rumour is that it's more attributed to the engine plant that the engine comes from but I think that's just another dealership excuse to try an keep customers happy and quiet.

At the end of the day it's caused by something, I wonder what that is. Poor quality control/loose tolerances on the pistons? I've heard the speculation that it's an issue because of the drive to reduce fuel consumption by lowering engine friction which would be annoying if true because I'm sure people care less about economy than they do about reliability...

That's somewhat true, less inherent friction, the less resistance, the easier things move, the less bang required to make them move. However, you're right in that the poor manufacturing tolerances are to blame for reliability, plain and simple.

I've done 13308km and used 2.7 lts. Averaging about 200ml per 1000km. I don't know if this is good or bad compared to everyone else or if I should even get it looked at.

That's good! No point getting it looked as anything less than 500ml per 1000km is within VW specifications.

A guy in italy replaced the pistons on a vrs with custom built ones and stopped oil usage.

Its about the only occasions ive read about where its stopped between service intervals.

Dropped the car to dealer today for oil consumption fix. They replaced piston oil jets.have anyone done this before? And is anyone know what it really mean? The guy at dealer not very helpful. Just said oil usage should be better than before.keep an eye for 3000km from now.

If you read through some recent posts, it is explained there. Has it made a difference?
