Can someone tell me what it mean? The service guy said they need the car for data collection or something to send to VGA and if they approve, then will be repair. Is this usual process , is my first time and just want to know more.
That should be all they need to negotiate with vwa the repair and what is required. My dealer had mine for a day to complete the oil test and do the back and forth. Maybe they just want to take 3 days to do that back and forth. Not really cool for you to be without your car for so long and they aren't even fixing it.

As I keep recommending, don't be afraid to get in touch with vw assist, they really want to make sure we are looked after.

Anyone have the compression test reading specs? Is the 1.4TSI twincharged engine original specs around the range of 13?

I haven't seen any mention of these oil squirters on here - anyone had this done yet? These engines squirt oil onto the bottom (or underneath) the pistons to cool them - i assume these are what have been revised.
Can someone explain to me how will a revised oil squirters fix the problem. I thought majority of these oil consumption problem are piston seal related? If your seals are stuffed, what difference would a new oil squirter make (assuming it's squinting less or redirecting the oil else where).

I guess the worst scenario that could happen, is oil consumption is "reduced" to an "VW acceptable level", but would still require the owner to top up multiple times between services. I wonder if it's a cost saving fix, instead of a full rebuild or a new motor?

The theory is that the squirters are pumping too much oil under the pistons, this is finding its way up past the rings and getting burnt.

From what ive been told: Until about a month ago the fix was a short engine replacement. Then they went to a new TPI that was, 'check the piston part numbers, replace if not the MY13's, else clean the rings and refit with smaller oil squirters'. A vast amount of work as with all the 'strip, check, contact VGA for approval, order parts, wait for parts, fit parts, hope you dont break anything, potentially order more parts etc' it seems the turnaround is about 3 -4weeks if the parts are in the country. From what I can tell there is now a new TPI that only seems to be just to fit new squirters.

    Hi all,

Thought I would give an update to my oil consumption situation. Long story short, it was burning 0.6l/1000km so I got the engine replaced in April and after 3500km it is still within spec on the dipstick.

The damage appears to be done early on so it won't matter what procedure is used from that point on.

Hi, I have read quite a few pages of this thread, its so long :faceplate:could some please help me short cut this issue as I am thinking to get a polo gti very soon.

The oil consumption issue is a random pot luck issue? or it has been directly linked to not been run in correctly from new purchase?

Would the 2014 models still have this potential issue?

    Thank you

^ I'd be waiting for the next generation Polo GTI which will be out with (it looks like) a new engine next year.
