Just a quick update: 1000kms after the oil consumption fix (pistons replaced). Engine oil is still full and no more black soots on my tailgate.

Are you sure? My 1.2L is 3.9L (with oil filter). I guess you could take 500ml off to account for that but still the 1.4 is a larger engine and it has more components to lubricate...

Well, I suppose the Polo engine could be slightly different to the Skoda, though I doubt it. I wonder if some of the oil use issues is down to garages assuming the the 1.4 takes 3.9L of oil, and the excess is burning off quickly. The other factor is that because the capacity is so small, being, say, half a litre down is a bigger "strain" and makes the engine burn the remainder more quickly. A vicious cycle, as it were. Just thinking aloud, off the cuff.

Anyway, as I couldn't easily find a Polo specific manual, I have provided a link to the Fabia manual. On page 200 is the listed oil capacity for various VW motors.

According to the castrol database a Polo1.4 GTI is 3.6L inc oil filter. I've seen those databases wrong before though.

100% its 3.8L as I saw the mechanic pour the oil into the engine and next day I recheck its between "A" and "B" with a warm engine and shut off for 20mins.

Drop my car for oil consumption test result after 1000km. Confirmed by dealer 1.3L per 1000km. They top up now and booked next mth for 3-4 days to carry out diss ticket to VGA. Can someone tell me what it mean? The service guy said they need the car for data collection or something to send to VGA and if they approve, then will be repair. Is this usual process , is my first time and just want to know more.
