You need to get a full understanding of where 502.00 & 504.00 sit in relation to the fixed & variable service regimes.

As I've said before, 502.00 is perfectly legitimate & safe to use on fixed service regimes where no severe service factors are present. In the UK, people actually complain if they are on fixed & the dealer uses 504.00 as it is deemed over-specced for that service regime.

Yes, about the cheapest you'll get 504.00 is $60-$65. 502.00 can be had much cheaper - even as an APPROVED oil.

Castrol Edge Sport 5w-30 with 502.00 approval is a great alternative, especially if your engine likes a drink.

You can use it BUT only for top ups. Only the 504/507 approved oil contains the additives and low particulate/sulfur to keep direct injections engines running. If you use only 502 oils you can say goodbye to your intake/exhaust valves.

And you can get pentrite enviro+ VW 504/507 5w30 5L for about $70 from supercheap

read your owners manual. you are wrong. It's that simple.

Aussies have been fed such a load of cobblers about which oil to use. We are no different to other parts of the world.

    502.00 for fixed service intervals
    504.00 for variable

507.00 for diesels with particulate filters

Well don't know what yours says but my 1.2tsi says it can ONLY use 504 oil. 502 can ONLY be used for topups and CANNOT be used as part of a service.

It then goes on to say that the warrantee WILL be void if it is proven that 504 oil is not used. If I had a computer I would be more than happy to post the guide.

I looked into using 502 oil but in the end it was cheaper, safer and better to use 504 oils.

Now to the next point - Australia is classified as a "hot climate" which means we only run off the long life, fixed service scheme meaning its 504 or 507 only.

This is a good thread discussing this.

    "Longlife III

Oils with reduced SAPS designed for variable service intervals of between 15,000 km/1 year and 30,000 km/2 years. Supersedes all previous VAG oil standards, except for R5 and V10 TDI engines built prior to 06/2006. Subject to 504.00/507.00 approval and is only available in one grade: 5W-30.

You can still use Longlife oils even if you run on fixed service intervals. In fact VAG recommends that if the car's driven in harsh operating conditions you should ask the dealer to switch over to fixed service intervals (Australian delivered cars are on the fixed service intervals)."
