I've seen black puffs of smoke from Golf GTI's when the drivers give them some beans. Other turbo cars as well, come to that.

Nah mate, I was meaning more of a blanket statement for all those with consumption issues.
After 6000kms of dedicated manual and sport only driving I saw a drop of 1.5mm on the dipstick.
Lucas, I agree with your observation but if you follow any VAG turbo car, they all puff black smoke under decent throttle application. The GTI motor runs pretty rich down low but dangerously leans out in the top of the rev range so it's no surprise you're only seeing it puffing as the car takes off. Personally, I'd be very wary of running this motor to redline often without a tune. As usual though, VAG would rather keep replacing engines and components under warranty rather than admit they stuffed up.

After a change to FUCHS at my 15k service have now completed 21k and has only needed 200ml top up.
Still have soot on the back of the car but am happy that it is not using any oil.
Hi there...!
Probably you can find something similar also in Australia, here a car preparer (bobracing) is now able to modify DSG7 software: not only elimination of kick down, launch control, reduced shifting time, etc., but also D's behaviour, overall changing gear's revs.
This will probably be useful for oil consumption problems for who still want to use automatic...
I don't have it, but some guys are now testing this new modification: in the software programming phase you can choose at how many rpm it shift gear...
Probably half way from the current D and S could be perfect...
so after numerous oil consumption tests. VW maybe doing an engine rebuild for me. Just wondering what should I ask them to do in additon to just rebuilding the engine. Should I ask for new piston rings, etc??? Also would a rebuilt engine need to be run in like its a new car ? And finally does a rebuilt engine warrant the odometer to be reset to 0 ? or that only for new engines? Thanks guys will update you as well on how this case goes.
Unless you're prepared to pay for it yourself, the dealer isn't likely to do anything beyond what they've diagnosed is wrong, so you can request it, but isn't likely to happen as warranty.
RE running it in, ask the dealership, but its something that opinions vary from baby it to drive it like you stole. I'm towards the later, don't flog it, but don't nurse it at low revs, engines are designed to rev so do that. I like the idea of putting it under load when new to bed everything in, so a nice mountain run which loads up the engine, also keeps the revs varying. I accept the logic in this approach.
The odometer will not be reset.
Good luck, hope it's all smiles once sorted.
