Yeah it does sound like fuel delivery then. THese things can carbon up pretty heavily and if you're getting blow by it does fill the intake tract with some nice black sludge. Maybe look at using an upper intake cleaner like what subaru sell or similar. Sea Foam even...

Should not have much blow by as i am only burning from Max to top of B after 4000km. What foam is that? I used to clean my throttle body and top combustion chamber every 10,000km on my previous Hondas but on VW, I am not sure how to do that. Can advice me on this? Injector should cost alot more than coils. Whats the selling price over there in Aussie? Funny thing is that it still drives well even at high rpms

It's pumping a greater volume of fuel out so that will help. Sea Foam does this: 2010 MK6 GTI Seafoam intake cleaning - YouTube

A modern VW is far more in need of intake cleaner than an older honda. Direct injection means that any carbon buildup is no longer washed off the valves by fuel, hence the need for specific oils to be used that can catch and trap carbon deposits.

Seafoam is far from being the best product out there, in fact id go to say that it's probably just the one people remember for the YouTube clips of subarus smoking like crap! Probably the best you can get is this one: BG Air Intake System Cleaner - YouTube which has now been recommended to me by 3 mechanics. Subaru sells one as a spare part, I'm not sure exactly what it's called but it couls be something like "upper intake cleaner"....

Price for injectors? I wouldn't know mate, I steer away from buying any VW parts in australia because of the 200% mark up over the european prices Should be done under warranty though.....

My car was in for a service yesterday (about 5 and a half months, and 4,200kms since the new engine went in).

Apparently its only drunk about 100mL of oil - which matches what I saw on the dipstick (only dropped one notch).

Quite impressed - Its suprising that with the (mostly) the same parts the Australian VW mechanics did a better job of engine assembly than the robots and mechanics who put my original engine together in Germany....

I'm going to hold off another 6 months and if consumption is still OK i will go nuts with a new Bridgestones, APR Intercooler and Tune.

Checked the oil today, last time I toppedup was on the 5th at 2840km. Today at 3788 I put in about 100ml while it was cold, it was 2 blocks into b and the missus was heading out so had no time to really check it with the engine warm so when she got home at 3831km it took another 100ml.
Atm its used 500ml roughly all up. I think the previous 1000km was around 130-150ml so 50ml increase atm.
The misfiring/shake at start has disappeared since I let the tank run to range of 20km and had two tanks of BP ultimate through it, previously used Caltex 98 from new and definitely wont be going back to it I don't think.

EDIT: cars been averaging about 8.0l per/100km lately

Done 4000km and topped up 250ml. Slightly higher than my previous top up but due to a cross country run of around 1400km in total and cruising at 150km/h on average.

Just updating on my new breather hose replacement. oil light went on after full top up at 1.3k lower than before my change which was about 1.7k Gonna wait till the oil light goes off again before I take it in for an oil consumption test. Sigh this is a never ending story

    Hi Guys

Still having issues with my oil consumption on my MY13 Gti.

I am sure its already on here somewhere (I can't seem to find it!) but can someone please tell me how I can measure the oil usage just by looking at the dipstick? I think I read somewhere that if oil is only covering the ball of the dipstick then this means that 1 litre of oil has been used?

Can somebody please confirm this? My oil was topped up 2 weeks ago (oil was at the high end of the stick) and when I checked it again yesterday, it has already travelled halfway down the indicator part of the dipstick.

I have already been back to VW 7 times in 10 months to top the oil up and they have done 2 oil consumption tests and both times have told me that my car is only using 250ml to 300ml but this doesn't sound right to me.

    Thanks for your help
    Cheers
    Scott

I suggest you only top up your oil and check your oil with a cold engine before your first crank of the day. ITs the most accurate way to monitor oil lost.
