Exactly. If I had wanted a car with the performance of a Golf GTI but with the fuel consumption of a Golf GTI, I would have bought a Golf GTI!

The fuel economy was a big selling point. VW should fix THEIR problem, not oblige me, the CUSTOMER, to work around THEIR problem...

At 1700km checked the oil in the fabia vrs, it was just above (b) section in (a). But never checked it in the first 1700 so not sure where it was to begin with.
Did a +300km day trip earlier on in the week and missus has now driven it abit more so i checked it last nite and has dropped about 3mm and took just over 100ml to bring it to back to (a)
Cars got about 2200km on it atm.

Cheapest 1l top-up bottle was $28 at highway VW , southport VW was $32

It's like Mazda and their new SkyActiv Diesel. It was a mess when first installed in the CX5 (massive crankcase oil dilution with diesel). And the response from Mazda was similar to VW. Took 8 months for a "solution". Not to mention their spontaneous burn the car to the ground iELoop in the Mazda 6.
The have been able to easily fix the problem. They're stopping production of the engine! Nothing more simple than pressing the off button!

mmmRacer, Petronas make a 5W40 oil that meets the 504/507 specs but I have spoken with people running 0W40 oil in europe and it has done nothing to subdue their consumption issues, they may just have very out-of-tolerance examples of the engine, if your engine isn't that far out of tolerance, a 40 series oil might help maginally.

    Hey Guys,

Got my oil check report back, seems as though everything is ok and that i should just monitor again at next interval. As you can see in the report it was flagged that i have a high silicon count and maybe thats due to the engine being still relatively new?

Anyhow will redo again at the next oil change interval and report back.

Anything else you guys can see thats interesting?

Wow, good result there! Interesting how after 21K has a high silicone count.

I'd be interested to see what results other people get. Slightly interesting is the iron content at 32 points, where the caution threshold is greater than 45.5. Still moderately high, won't know until next oil check, or if someone conducts similar analysis.

Partner's MY13 Polo GTI CTHE needed an oil top up yesterday after the light came on at 3000kms. Couldnt get onto VW at the time so filled out of my own pocket. Called VW (where we bought it from) this morning informed the lady at the service desk. She was shocked to hear it had burnt that much and wanted us to bring it in. I asked to speak to a mechanic or a foreman. She went off and had a chat, and he wants me to bring it in for a supposed fix. I enquired what this fix was, but the foreman just left so she couldnt ask, but apparently it was not changing any parts.

I also enquired whether, in future, I was able to come down for a free top up this early on, and she seemed surprised that I asked. How did you guys get VW to top your oil up free of charge?

With regards to the "fix", everything on the car is perfect. After hearing stories on here about the driveability suffering after an update or whatever I am hesitant to hand it over.

I also got fed the "run in oil" story. Is this honestly a load of crap? Is there any difference in viscosity between their oil, and ones we buy off the shelf?
Just checking in again. 1000 more kilometers, I noticed along the way it was burning a bit, but wanted a wider average so let it burn half way down the b section. However it only let me top up about 200 mls curiously. I'm gonna drive it for a week and see of the consumption changes with a heavier foot. Also with regards to the soot, what does it look like? And is it all over the back? Or only near the exhaust?

Should not have so much iron. Are you using original air filter system or you changed something? Fuel dilution is higher than my own comfort level. Lastly, how many times have you changed your oil?

Checked again today after another day trip. Took about just over 150ml to top it up. Done about 500-600kms since first top up but 300ml all up at 2800km isnt overly excessive?

Nope. Should improve as the mileage gets up
