Looks like a consumption test for me. Consumption is increasing and increasing. Just done 1,500kms and used well over 1 litre. Booked in next Tuesday to get the clutches looked at again and to start a consumption test.

I asked a kangaroo what he thought of the Polo GTI's oil usage problems... This was his response:

    Previous Ride: Polo GTI MY2012|DSG|RNS510|Shadow Blue|Lenso GF7 18” rims

Yeah! The vibration in first is getting worse and in the even gears, it's felt like the clutch has 'slipped' on accelerating (e.g. it doesn't kick down and then the whole car jerks / slips) - heaps of fun!

Anyone know what oil they use in a consumption test? Getting one started today and they don't want to use my oil (Liqui Moly Top Tech 4200) they want to use the VW oil.

Is that because they want to put a thicker viscosity in there so it doesn't use any oil in the test

What is the difference in viscosity... surely you will have an obligation to use the correct recommended oil.

Agreed. I was just curious that they didn't want to use the oil that is in the car, they are draining it and re-filling with their oil.

They had made the passing comment to me before the consumption test to use a 'thicker oil' (their words)......so I'm wondering if that's what they could be doing

get them to put oil type in writing on job card... ask for a copy of it but make sure you know what type of oil it needs.

Whoever the dealership has a contract with would be a fair bet so for you, Castrol Longlife Professional 5W30 would be a fair bet

Damn, I wanted to change to Liqui Moly to reduce consumption, guess it doesn't make a difference. I am running 1L after 1600km now after getting the ventilation hose changed. I was over 1L/1000km before that, I am approaching 7500km so I think I will change to Liqui Moly Top Tech 4200 anyway for a 6 month service.
