    I'm using VW oil atm so whatever they have put in from the my last breather pipe installation. Castrol I think it is.

    Ok well still I like to keep it close to 100 but mine is generally around 92-98 never really goes over unless i trash it for a good 5-10mins

    Engine oil temperature will depend on engine load.

    If one does not like the idea of the MFD displaying a number higher than 100°C, restricting throttle usage, keeping the engine revs down and reducing speed will ensure of that.

    I have seen 105 degrees... pedelling pretty hard. Fabia RS.

    Been told by those that run modified versions that 120/130 is common on a track.

    65ml of oil used for each of the last 2 x 1000ks... after 5500ks (to 7500ks)

    Having enjoyed my 1.2TSI Highline for 12 months I'm very seriously considering a trade in to a new GTI (MY2013). This thread and others similar on alternative sites have given me some serious pause for thought. I've got a couple of questions that I hope someone might be able to answer:

    1. I've read somewhere that VW has modified the 1.4 132kW engine to help overcome high oil usage. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, when the new engines started being fitted to cars? If there is a new engine variant, does the engine have a new code that I could check against to make the car I'm thinking of buying has the new engine?

    2. Slightly different subject: I know the standard (everything but the GTI) 5-door Polo is built in South Africa. I've read somewhere that the GTI is built in Germany. Can anyone confirm this?

    Any MY13 Polo GTI from the factory now will have the updated engine (old engine code: CAVE, new engine code: CTHE)
    I believe the upgrades are the breather pipe fitted at factory, and forged pistons or something. Most people on this forum with the new (CTHE) engine have had much less oil usage than the old (CAVE) engine.

    In all fairness there isn't that many CTHE polos on here yet. I think it's too soon to pass judgement in all honesty but the changes do seem to have helped. There is a lot more changes than just a crankcase breather and pistons, the rings are different, a new oil separator and intake pipe work, slightly different cylinder head assembly from memory too. I have outlined all the changes elsewhere on here.
