so the tpi has been updated and 2 more pipes are being replaced the airintake pipe and the breather pipe from rocker cover to airintake pipe with the valve in just a little 1 parts arnt in the country yet for all you oil thirsty GTI s
I dont service my cars at all. I drive them till the stop running. And event then I begrudge putting 4 spark plugs in when only one cylinder is misfiring. (the polo will be different because it is leased). I have had my current lancer for 3 years/80,000 never serviced, never pulled the dipstick. The only time the bonnet comes up is when I need 12V to pump bike tyres. The oil light still hasnt come on.
These clowns are saying it is perfectly normal to put in half a litre of oil with every tank of fuel.

Now gone.... 2012 Skoda Fabia RS
My GTI has come out from it's engine rebuilt today.
I am yet to get a full run down of what has been completed on it, but so far there is no soot coming from the exhaust, and first gear sluggishness is completely gone.
I have asked them to scan & email me all of the car's paperwork/history as I never received anything even for the oil consumption tests.
I must tip my hat though, Osborne Park VW's Service Manager has done right by me finally, and they even through in my 12 month service for free, re-detailed the car, and re-applied the paint protection to the whole car for nothing!
MY12.5 Candy White 5 door Polo GTI. Upgrades/Mods = RNS510 H LED, RVC camera, Auto Lights Dash Sound Actuator GTI button, Gavs Footrest(!)
WIP = Miltek Turboback Exhaust, Cold Air Intake, Red Stuff brake pads (Nov '13)
Had the breather fitted at around ~4300km after high oil usage. Check oil level has just come on again at ~5300km on the way home from work..
Will give the dealer a call in the morning, pretty unimpressed.
I am a very big lancer fan. They arent a drivers car by any means but as an appliance they are brilliant. The 2.4 mivec pulls like a train even if it sounds like a truck on startup and clutch and gearbox are heavy. I have had 1 or 2 at any time since 1993. I use Mitsubishi for family hack duties, VW for my personal passion.
I just sold lancer #2 a 1997 model 1 week before christmas. It had 298,000kms. It had developed a tappet cover leak. The seats were worn out. Holes in the carpet under the drivers feet. It had plenty of battle scars on the outside. The aircon pulley was noisey because it got flooded at one point. I'm not urging everyone to do the same but you can add up the money I saved on service costs. I wouldnt have received any more than the $765 I got on ebay had I serviced it religiously. (I did do both the timing belts) Might have got more had I not cancelled 3 bids because they were from people with bad feedack or tried to sell when everyone was broke before christmas.
To me it sounds like a lot of gti drivers are carrying out the same service schedules. They are topping up the oil every time the light comes on. The only difference is that even with a largely unserviced 300K on the clock I was getting 10-15,000km.
Sorry for the off topic but I had to defend the flame. I'll go back to my corner now.
