First gear in a Mk5 Golf GTI at 113 km/h is about 12500 RPM, so that person must've pulled the clutch before it got as high as that!

How they're pushing this past the warranty office at VW Australia is beyond me.

I've done probably 15 oil consumption tests in the last 18 months, 5 of which on Polo GTIs.

The bulletins and procedures state that it should not be performed before the 15,000klm service, and that it is at the customer's expense until proven that the oil consumption is in fact outside the maximum tolerances.

Believe me, I wouldn't have bothered posting, unless I knew what I was talking about.

This doesn't seem to be the case- read the threads on oil usage sticked on the top. Mine had oil consumption test around 8,000km, engine rebuild (approx 10,000 I think it was) and then engine replacement at 15,000km. I've lost count the amount of litres I've chucked in the car (and the dealer has put in as I go there for top ups after I use my litre bottle of oil) so mine was an excessive case but doesn't seem to be the only one on this forum.
