Polo GTI 6r Bi-Xenon headlights fogging up!!!

    Hey everyone,

I have a 2011 Polo 77tsi, and I recently installed some OEM Bi-Xenon headlights (from the Polo GTI) purchased from the parts department, which look SICK!!! But since I put them in a few months ago they keep fogging up in the inside, bottom corners (towards the VW badge) when it's cold (yay for winter). Really I was just wondering if anyone else with a Polo GTI has / had these problems? And if there is any way to fix it.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes happens all the time to my 2 week old GTI.

Not to worry. Only be worried if there is water (pools of it). It's just because Melbourne's weather is stupidly cold evenings/mornings and the inside is warm, hence condensation. It disappears after a while too.

I'm hoping in the future it will decrease though, I'm just putting it down as a new headlight condition. If it doesn't get better in time, I will pull them out and look for a bad seal.

I'm intrigued, OEM headlights, over 2k surely? Did you get the entire headlight package i.e. self alignment?

    @ fast lane,

I have been looking at these for awhile and yes WV Australia did want me to pay about 2k for them (headlight assy only). So after a bit of research and a very helpfull tip from the parts department, they said to look overseas and see what I could find. So I did and got them direct from VW Spain where the GTI is made! and i only payed $800 aus (postage included) for the pair, with bulbs!

I didn't get the auto levelling because: one you need a different wiring harness, and two I have had no experience with Vagcom to update the coding. But I am pretty good with electronics so I patched the cornering lights into the highbeam for even better night vision. Hell yeah!

Buddy you may be the first guy to do this in AU, I was ummming and ahhhing if should take the plunge but thought it would be to much to deal with and didn't wanna be stuck. Got a quote for about $1100 but that came with auto leveling from memory. You must post pictures and PM me or post details on where you bought from and how you got it working? It would be greatly appreciated?..! How does it look btw and do the DRLs work?

Wasn't omtuning by chance was it?

    @ bassik,

Yep you are correct!!! I did get them through OMtuning (who advised me that he gets them from the VW Spain Parts department).

Haha how I got them working well that's a long one! All the components work to a degree. I have got the full Bi-Xenon system working (the shutter inside the projector for hi/low beam), obviously the HID Xenon lamp, the DRL LEDs do work but do not dim when the parkers ot indicators are switched on (which I don't care about) and I patched the cornering lights into the high beam because I have no means of making them do what they are ment to. I would have gotten it cheaper if they had the adapter from the hallogen assy to the Bi-Xenon. I had to fork out some money to get the parts to make a plug. If I get around to it I'll take some pictures.

Awesome yeah ok so it was OMtuning, I had the guy from there email me continuously asking if I was still interested...lol Think he mentioned the adapter Halo-Xenon that was at an extra cost as well. Looks like you have given me some confidence to do it myself.

Yeah if you wouldn't mind some pictures would be a great help... I also fear if I do get them I may ask what you did just in case I fall into any traps.

$800 seems like a pretty good price too... was that total including postage???

Just checking my invoice I payed 830 euro not aus, my apologies, that is about 1000aus, but still better than the $865ish that vw wanted here for just one side EXCULDING bulbs. For the 830 euro I got the two headlamp assembly's, ALL the bulbs (which vw here want $300 for!!!) and two adapters to fit the lights.

I will admit I was quite sceptical that they would arrive, there is no normal online store, so it was all done through email, and postage took a little long but they arrived and everything was accounted for so I'm not complaining.

Yeah same... I was a little skeptical as well which is why I didn't take the chance. Although you did hehe...

So what else was needed that you had to buy... I'm assuming it wasn't just plug n play (straight swap)?

Na it definitely wasnt plug and play. First I had to get an adapter, in this case it was for a Audi q7 (only because from what I could tell on the photo had the same pin layout as the headlight assembly) in this case I right, thank god. Once I got the adapter I chopped it up because I only needed the plug. Then it was just a case of chopping and soldering the wires from the cars wiring harness to the plug. Figuring out what all wires are and what they power, now that's the chalange!
