So they have put over 15,000kms on the car in less than 12 months, fried the tyres as well (I got 42,000kms with still 2mm front and 3mm rear of tread on my GTI factory tyres) and replaced with cheap crap tyres, are currently 3000kms over due on a the first major service which is a brakes service as well and they are selling under the premise of "nothing wrong"?

Yea I know it sounds rather dodgy but looks like the owner is selling due to financial reasons. I did manage to bargain the price down but still am not a 100% confident. As for the oil burning, didn't notice soot at the back but it's a black car and also didn't pull off the engine cover but doubt he's done any of that as it's only been to the VW workshop once for it's 15k service. Been trying to contact jmac as he's the only vw mechanic I know personally but have not gotten a reply yet.

Also just noticed the recall today and the owner isn't sure if the car is part of it. Looks like I'm getting more warnings than encouragement regarding the car.

About the tyres, the seller lives in a suburb with loads of roundabouts. Have a mate living there too and his R32 tyres had to be changes twice in 80k (3 sets in total).

Do yourself a favour and contact the local VW service centre and see if there is any warranty work logged in the system for the car.

So what? I drive nearly every day during summer down the peninsular here and there a 6 roundabouts that I take at an average of 80kph each way, plus I do a fair few mountain runs and at least 3 times a week drive on really twisty hilly roads. I still got 42,000kms out of the factory dunlops. Either way, the fact they put cheap tyres on without any research (could have fitted out the car in some nice Bridgestone rubber last month with buy 3 get 1 free) leads me to believe that there would have been issues.

Any my12 or earlier polo with a dsg is affected by the recall so don't think you will be able to get one that's not, sorry.

Gav, this guy obviously didn't want to keep the car for long from the looks of it. From what I gather, finance is the reason hence the cheap tyres and missed service. If I were to buy that car, how much should I pay for it? MY11 model, no options, 33k mileage. Also, with the recall from july, will vw offer a replacement car while it's in the workshop?
