Great car the polo gti. Youll get much enjoyment driving it. Get the dealer to throw in a ipod cable for you mdi kit. Which i think is now standard! Giac tune for more power later down the track
Hi all,
I have been reading the forums for about a month non-stop now and am loving all the expertise everyone has when talking about vws. I am about two weeks out from getting my first vw. A polo gti in candy white with the rns510 included.
When picking up the car what things should i looking for?
Looking forward to posting some pics and reports on how it all goes along the journey!

The dealer charged me 3.5k for the rns510. But didnt specify what that actually covers. What should be included?
MDi kit is standard. I pod cable is extra cost. RNS510 is a navigation unit and has an inbuilt 30gb hard drive which 10gb is used by your navigation. You can use the 20GB to store music. You should have bluetooth as standard aswell for the polo gti..

Im really looking forward to having a sat nav and touch screen. It is being installed here in oz. Will it come with the sharkfin antenna?
shark fin antenna? That is BMW?
Yes it'll come with the sharkfin style antenna, because the BT phone system uses it. Weather or not they connect the RNS510 to it or just pop a puck antenna somewhere under the dash is something you might want to ask your dealer. I would certainly want the sharkfin ariel connected if I was spending 3.5K on a unit I can get (and did) from eBay for 1.2K.
Acko the Sharkfin is on the new MY12.5 models, here's a pic of it.

damn, 10% of the car value... thats some serious money for a little screen. I guess if you are going to use the GPS and make calls in the car frequently it makes sense.
I've read that Bluetooth, USB and ipod connections are not standard with the RNS510, you'd want all that covered at a minimum.
Jesus you could get a lot of aftermarket audio for that cash.
Thats a big difference, maybe see if they can do better?

Thats a bit of red herring, none of the VW headunit's have those features because they're controlled by other units in the car (MDI and BT). Both of which are standard on MY12.5+ Polos.
The RNS510 is a good unit compared to aftermarket units, especially when the car comes with the BT and MDI standard but the price that dealers charge is just silly.
