The new colours are nice. It'd be good if VW did go beyond the ultra-dull colour palette available for the Golf 7

They've dumped the 1.6 TDI for a three-cylinder 1.4 with the same power, but using 21 percent less fuel. Sounds interesting, on paper at least.

They have also dumped the 1.2tsi (4 cylinder) for a 1.2tsi 3 cylinder which makes slightly more power haha.

I don't think it would be as smooth as the 4 pot but now that they have made the cylinders bigger (300cc's vs 400cc's) it means they can make it a dual cam / 4 valve per cylinder instead of the current SOHC 8 valve - which is so restricting up high.

Also added bonus with this, is that the spark plug can now be placed in the centre of the cylinder (unlike the 4pot which has it next to the exhaust port off to the side) and with that can go back to direct acting coils instead of a big coil pack and annoying HT leads.

Also means that variable valve timing could be possible and thus in all this engine would have better tuning potential than the current one

...or you could get the 110kw 1.4 an have a ball

"Three engines are available, with seven (!) different levels of power. The two gasoline engines available are a 1.0-liter three-cylinder and a 1.2-liter inline-four, with four different power outputs that range from 59 to 109 horsepower."

    and

"New petrol engines. All petrol engines offered in Europe were converted to new three- and four-cylinder versions.

The Polo TSI , available starting this autumn (U.S)
That would almost gaurantee a summer release in Australia phew I have a little more time before getting the Focus ST! (as the facelift model is due to debut at the Geneva auto show).

Interesting - the other article from Autocar doesn't make any mention about any 4 cylinders besides the 1.4L...
