I paid 750e installed for 195/50R16 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 winter tyres. R2 is the flagship model for spikeless nordic winter tyres. So far I'm really happy with them. Yesterday it was -24C and they grip really well on snow and ice.

195/50R16 on Polo? Not sure I have this size on the vehicle registration...

    Anyway, that's expensive...!
Not sure are the same tires, but to the following price you have to add about 10€ per tyre for mounting and balancing: Nokian WR D3 XL

-24C! WOW! Now I understand better why you have so much good rally drivers winning all around the world Roads must be like a playground...!! lol
Wish i could come sometime in your beautiful Country!

215/45R16 is on my vehicle registration. It is the standard size for 16" wheels. However Finnish law allows +/- 3cm change in width, 1" rim size change and 3% overall diameter change. 195/50R16 is (almost) exactly the same diameter as the standard sizes so no correction is needed for speed display. There was no nordic winter tyres available for the standard size and even the car dealers use this tyre size. I guess rarity of such "big" rim size limits the tyre selection and keep the prices up. 15" steel rims are the most commonly seen here as winter wheels. Anyway narrower tyres are better when travelling in snow.

Of course I'm going to miss my old RWD Porsche, but these times modern and economical car is the way to go. Even with the expense of the fun factor in the winter.

Check out this video comparison with old Hakkapeliitta R vs WR D3. It is narrated in Finnish and interesting part starts at 0:43. Nordic winter tyres handle a lot better on snow and ice, but are weak on wet and dry asphalt. Then we have spiked winter tyres which grip better on ice, but make some extra noise and ride quality suffers slightly.

Mostly it wouldn't make sense owning them in Italy unless you live in the mountains.

Not going to hijack this thread but here are some photos of my BlueGT. 2-door polo is really rare in Finland, but it seems internet car enthusiasts prefer it more. Colour is same as the other car in this thread, Blue Silk only available for BlueGT.

    Original 16" Syenit wheels.

OEM Exhaust trim from GTI installed.

Maybe I should post some nice winter photos later. Once I wake up early enough to catch the sunlight.
