    Polo 77TSI Limp Mode

    Hi All,

My 77TSI entered into limp mode today.

I'm thinking it overheated. I was driving pretty hard, temps were 36C outside and air con was on full pelt...

Driving along when the engine made a droning noise, i couldn't rev over 1500rpm and the EPC + Traction lights were flashing...

I pulled over, turned off the engine, waited 2 mins and tried again (i was in a rush)... wouldn't turn over...

I waited another 2 mins... Then it was fine...

Been driving another 60k's without issue... No power loss. Transmission fine, etc...

Any thoughts on what happened (apart from my lack of mechanical sympathy)

    Cheers,

    Josh

im guessing that pushing 100kw / 200~nm out of that tiny turbo, relentlessly, on a baking hot day, might have been a factor in it - no turbo likes that sort of thing. another thing that springs to mind is the exhaust - depending on the design (i know it's not full turbo back), it might be facilitating the kind of boost creep that may send the car into limp mode, because exhaust gasses are escaping too quickly for the turbo post-tune?

or then it could have something to do with exhaust temp sensors post-tune on a hot day etc etc...

i'd be looking for someone with vag com, or at least drop by your local dealer's and ask them to download the fault codes (shouldnt take them too long).

Same thing happened with me when I had a loan Golf 77 TSI - it was a hot day, fuel was low (gave me a loan car with the light on....as*ses) and I was in S mode. Pulled over, gave it a little rest and it was fine
